If you’re going to be close to breaking a record and you’re swimming at tuckahoe, it’s good to suit up. Fast pool and that ginormous lip is almost like a starting block. |
As an MCSL parent my curiosity was piqued enough to look at the results from the two NVSL teams bashing each other on this thread. Two things stood out to me- the times from the past meet were surprisingly slow. Is this typical? Maybe the swimmers drop a ton of time at divisionals. The other thing that surprised me is there were no 100s- not even for freestyle. This tends to give the advantage to the taller/older swimmers. |
An absolute perfect response reiterating this forum's subject link: 'Summer Swim Brings Out the Crazy' |
Seriously PP get a hobby. You seem a bit obsessed. |
I second this! The Tuckahoe folks were nice and welcoming. Yes, also competitive but at the same time complementary to our swimmers for the great races. The meet was also extremely efficient and well run which was very noticeable in the crazy heat! The timers were friendly and even had water/rags for us to stay as cool as possible. Would love to swim there again! |
The backstrokers said it was harder to swim there. OKM has the opposite issue — huge gutters, so effectively a longer pool, but backstrokers have less wash and the gutter is easy to hold on the backstroke start. OKM is better for backstroke but not for anything else, and Tuckahoe was awesome for everything else, but not super great for backstroke starts. |
I can easily put this together for Overlee, Tuckahoe, Chesterbrook, etc to refute every single claim of recruitment. (I’m not even an OKM member.) The “recruiting” byline is so tired, and the gaslighting of “PP you’re crazy, you’re obsessed, get a hobby” is your only retort when someone (quickly and easily) refutes your BS claims with data. Our team, which is in D2, also receives its fair share of “you’re recruiting” allegations. And I compile the same data to show otherwise. So I’ll gaslight you right back: Alleging that a faster, better team has to recruit to be faster and better, and pairing that with BS allegations of other bad team rep, parental, or coach behavior, shows your own immaturity. Just because these teams do summer swim better than your team does not mean they are recruiting (which, BTW, is not per se unethical when a pool is trying to gain new members), does not mean the kids aren’t having fun, and does not mean the other team has a bunch of a$$holes as reps, coaches, and parents. YOU need to get a life and stop deflecting your own inadequacies by claiming recruitment and dishonesty by other teams. |
Who are the two teams? Because it seems completely opposite from what you suggest. OKM and Tuckahoe are actually the only ones NOT bashing each other. Other potentially-inferior curmudgeons appear to be the instigators in the most recent pages of this thread. As for times, NVSL does not swim 100s, but our 9-10s don’t swim 25 free, 25 back, or 25 breast either (they swim 50s). The two leagues make different event choices. And yes, summer league favors sprinters. My child excels at 200+ events, so summer league is not my child’s sweet spot, but it’s fun and we do it for the fun and summer time camaraderie. |
This isn’t super hard to come by. Go to leaders in mynvsl. Scan the top 50. Find the team. Click on that swimmer’s name. Scroll down to where the first entry is. Look to see if swimmer was at that team at the youngest age. Conclude the age the swimmer began with that team. I just did it for my team and it took 5 minutes. |
This entire forum is a good laugh and filled with many truths that point to absolute parent crazy. If you want to get all mixed up in the 'my kid can beat you in a 25 or 50' world of summer swim, by all means go for it because there truly is a lot of bat shit crazy parents out there who want to play that game...but for us parents who actually swam/participated in the sport as kids and truly understand there's so much more to the sport that makes well rounded swimmer. This is why we put such a stronger emphasis on goals/objectives/life lessons taught through our PVS club than the nonsense of NVSL and unecessary parent drama that comes with it. Some of the worse parent behavior I've ever witnessed in any sport has been associated with NVSL and summer league teams and for what I will never truly understand. |
You seriously posted this...man the OKM reps are freakin insane... ?? |
Don't be a fool. They were nice and complimentary because they knew they were going to absolutely crush you. Had you been real competition it would not have been so light and fun. |
Lady. This did not take you 5 minutes to do this for all these events and type out all those words across multiple posts. |
+1,000. I also think a lot of the summer swim crazy is fueled by the 10 and under parents. They all need to take a breath and realize that being this invested and obsessed with the summer swim times of kids under 10 is absurd. |
OMG, you aren’t kidding!! Absolutely batsh*t obsession. I warned people about OKM last year and y’all were like nooo, they’re nice! Nope, they’re nuts. And now you have it in writing above. |
