The only widower of 60 I know finally settled on dating a 60 year old solan - after dating a bunch of women. Some men probably prefer to have someone at similar stage of life and health.

That said, I don’t think any of us can know what the men are looking for … I find the misogynistic ageism on this thread much more disturbing than Joan’s plastic surgery and false eye lashes - and I strongly dislike plastic surgery/ fake nails and lashes.

This ^^ is female gaze.

Male gaze, which matters on a show like this where you need a house full of men competing over a woman, is what is more important for the show. And male gaze wants the false eyelashes and hair extensions and a younger-looking face (even if it does look tight and weird from having had "work" done).

Hard disagree -- it is easy enough to generalize about what men want. Assume that most of them prefer a younger, more attractive woman and your assumption is usually going to be right. It isn't necessarily misogynistic ageism to recognize this. Perhaps the phenomenon itself is misogynistic ageism, or arises out of it, but here we are; it's a reality for whatever distasteful reason. And you can't ignore it while discussing a show like this.

I imagine that perhaps the producers, when casting for this show, vet the potential contestants to see how open they are to dating someone their own age and try to weed out the ones who seem like they would only go for a younger woman. I agree that there are many men who do want women their own age or close to it. But there are also many men who don’t.

This reminds me of her talking about her morning routine of exercise and doing her hair and make up and she said something like "that takes time."

My DH and adult son strongly disagree with you. They dislike fake hair/ lashes/ nails and prefer more graceful aging …

None of the men I know in my family and friend circle find plastic fantastic attractive. It could be overlooked if brains and humor shine brightly which is apparently not the case for Joan.

Men tend to like enhancements that they don’t know are enhancements. I’m pretty sure all the women on Gerry’s season had some work or other, even just Botox and filler, but aside from Kathy, none of it was as obvious as Joan’s. Not all injectors and surgeons are created equal, and not all faces and bodies look the same with work done. Joan has that overdone Real Housewife look to her. Some men like it, but they’re not usually high quality men. Faith, Leslie, Edith, Nancy, April, Sandra and some others I can’t remember all look prettier and more natural than Joan.

Pascal continues to grow on me. The tighty whities were distracting, but did you see what he was doing? Steaming his own clothes. Pascal can do laundry, he’d just rather pay someone else to do it. I hate laundry myself. I also think for Pascal there is an element of having the means to outsource when he grew up in poverty. He seems popular with the other guys and I suspect he’s getting a lot of encouragement to ham it up and quite the edit. Pascal would never make a life with Joan. She’s too basic for him.

Jordan seems very grounded and kind. I hope he sees what a shallow and self centered person Joan seems to be.

Jonathon never had a chance. Joan does not strike me as wanting minor step children, and I’d be surprised if she would date an AA man.

Keith was a great guy, but he’s not super fit. Joan was never going to choose him.

Mark is quiet and projects an older vibe. I’m not saying he’s decrepit at all, but I suspect Joan perceives him as less desirable. He also didn’t send her a message that she’s the moon and the stars. And I think she really wants that.

I think Joan has plenty of money left, because her husband was never sentenced. Criminal liability ceases with death, so no fines were ever paid. I’ve decided I really don’t like Joan. Her comments in the podcast were too much. If she has a silent belief that her husband was innocent, fine. But don’t bring up money and how hard you worked. That is just not a good look. It’s understandable that her husband of 32 years and the father of her children is the love of her life, but does she have any actual personality? IDK. I just feel pretty over Joan.

Like most pp, I think she will go with Chok and it will end badly.

Well, she did kind of date Jonathan - smooching and all.

Yeah.

It doesn't ring true that a decent looking senior ER doc (who works with PLENTY of female nurses) has any trouble finding a date/partner/spouse...

unless he's known for cheating or being a jerk to the staff at work, I don't buy that he's looking for love on a TV show.
