Half of British women reach age 30 without having a child

Even if the husband pitches in 50/50. Even if you make decent money.

Kids have become far too expensive to be worth it. College tuition alone is at least $100k per kid. Childcare is over $30k a year for 5 years. There’s zero help. And kids just suck overall - the whining, complaining, the messes, sleep deprivation.

My H pitches in 50/50 and we make decent money, and kids are still just a constant source of stress.

Politicians throw a $2k tax credit and then shrug their shoulders with “it’s not money! We tried giving money!” when it’s that people need like $200k just to survive in the US.

I mean this sincerely - I feel sorry that that is your experience. It’s not been mine. My kids are my favorite part of my life. I will be sad when they graduate and are out of the house.

Except Israel

Jewish people are way more forward thinking and optimistic about the future.

Israel's population is is about 74% Jewish, 18 percent Muslim and then Christians and Druze. The higher population is more likely to be among the Arabs and the Orthodox Jews rather than the secular Jewish population. Same in the UK. Of the women who are having children under age 30, a large are probably Muslims or recent immigrants.

Do you actually know any single and childless women over 40? Because I do, and they're doing fine.

lol. You want them to admit that they did it all wrong and they are lonely and miserable?

+1. They’re almost always closet drunks, pill poppers, and being exploited by shrinks. And obsessed with their dogs or cats, of course.

Friends talk to each other. I know many single childless women over 40 and while they may occasionally have bad days, like everyone does, they are not lonely and miserable.

I'm single and over 40 and I'm not lonely or miserable. Sorry to disappoint!

I like how someone's trying to pretend that women choosing not to have children is this unique 21st century idea. Have you heard of nuns?

It's expensive. Childcare. I would have probably had children earlier and had more children if there was a robust early childhood care and education program in place. Or at least, tax wise, all of my childcare costs were fully deductible. They aren't. 5K is a drop in the bucket with respect to FSAs.

I have two kids in my mid 30's. I probably would have four or five if the financial incentives had aligned. I'm a rational person and really, the economics of raising children in the US is just trash. Put aside everything else.

Let's assume for a moment that you're right. Women who are single and don't have kids are miserable. Why does that bother you? I presume you did it all right and got married and had kids. Why not just enjoy the results of your correct choices? Why does it upset you if some women made poor choices and are unhappy?

Agreed. Stopping at 2 was a very rational financial decision for us. But it's not what my heart wanted.

I agree. Working sucks. Home repairs and chores suck. Mid-life socializing isn't as central and fulfilling as it was in the teens and 20s. But the kids...the kids are the bright spot.

They all wanted to have the SATC lifestyle and didn’t realize till they were too old what they missed out on.

You're obsessed with this silly notion that women planned their lives around a TV show.

It was so incredibly hard (every day every minute) to have young children while holding down a job, doing about 80% of the house stuff, and carrying 90% of the mental load. I would have loved to have had more then the two children I have. But until men step the f up at home, women will opt out.

You should have chosen better. This is usually more of a problem for lower quality women.

Interesting. I'm the one you're responding to. Would you define lower quality please? I literally don't know what you mean by that.

DP. Poorly educated. No social or life skills. Difficult families. Children from relationships. Low earning potential. Medical issues

And the list goes on ….

What a terrible thing to say. Also delusional.

Nobody says that you are low quality, though a vast majority of women are low quality compared to their counterparts in other countries. With the cost of living in other countries being so low, lots of guys are opting to become digital nomads, and [i]higher quality women [b]is a big factor in their decision making process.

They're "higher quality" ie better looking than these guys could get in their home countries. Let's be real, I've spent years in expat communities, these guys are not generally pulling "high quality" women. But yes, they can get a younger and cuter barista abroad in a low cost of living area who thinks a guy making 100k is rolling in it. The actual high quality women in these countries aren't interested in some schlubby American "digital nomad."

You're talking about your stereotypical US expat. Most of their relationships are hopeless and revolve around $$. Maybe you spent time in areas where expats and sex tourists congregate? They are somewhat gross, so I avoid those areas.

I'm talking about guys who are fluent, educated, well rounded, active, and mostly integrated into local culture. The latter can absolutely get women 10x better overseas, while the former likely isn't going to get much better than a gringo chaser.

lol tell me you are an overweight middle aged man earning less than 250k without telling me.
