Why cant Amazon/Zappos etc... use less obvious & more discrete packaging for their shipments?

We all do not live in gated communities.
No unattended package lying on a doorstep is safe but packages with AMAZON/ZAPPOS written all over them attract attention and are more vulnerable to thieves.

Why cant Amazon/Zappos etc... use less obvious & more discrete packaging for their shipments?

Why can't you have it shipped to your office?

So what you are saying is everybody needs to have their packages sent to their offices now?

What are they supposed to do? FWIW just because it's a big box from Amazon doesn't mean it's valuable or worth stealing. Most likely just diaper wipes or toilet paper

NP, but I telecommute.

I figure Amazon boxes have less to steal than other boxes. They're usually toiletries, diapers and cleaning supplies.

So you should be home when the package comes?

then ... you need not worry about unattended packages sitting on your doorstep all day, right? because you're sitting 10 feet away as you telecommute?

Amazon boxes have been stolen from our front porch. Guess they weren't happy with my son's Pokemon cards because we found them (and the ripped open Amazon box) behind our house. We haven't had an issue since then.

If we are going to order anything of significant value - computer, phone, etc - we have it sent to a friend's house who works from home.

Because its a form of advertising that the companies' value.

Ship it to an Amazon locker. Ask a neighborhood retailer to accept it for you and have it delivered there.

Two quick options YOU can take.

OP What makes you think a plain brown box is less likely to be stolen?

To the PP who suggested having stuff shipped to work, many companies to not allow this. Where I work in DC if you do you get a label on your letter or package reminding you about the no personal items delivered to the office rule. I used to get it on my junk mail all the time. Like I am really going to contract random companies and ask them to mail the junk mail to my home instead, especially as the companies got my address through conferences or other work event.

BTW I am pretty sure amazon still has locker service, so if you are concerned your package might be stolen have it shipped to a locker and pick it up from there.

Who is everybody? If you have a job and wont be HOME when a package is expected to arrive, then yes, ship it to your office. If someone is home during the day then send it to the house. It's not a difficult idea to grasp. "Everybody" doesn't have to ship to the office, but it's helpful if you're not home.

Also, have a neighbor grab it if they can.

Why is it on Amazon or Zappos to redesign "boxes" because you place an order? You get the shipping info and can track the shipment and can SEE when it's out for delivery... Either have it help at UPS or Fedex or be home to receive it.

If married send it to your spouse's office then. I've never heard of this policy. Have it held at UPS. There are other options.
