^^because the leagues are smarter than the Clubs and know they are too young. |
That is completely nuts. Making $$$$ on parents' neuroticism. |
That is complete bullshit and I know it has happened with the boys too. Next they are going to be canvasing the preschools to get them paying for travel even earlier. A red team guarantee by Kindergarten if you start $$$ now! Let them have at it. The color their kid gets is their barometer of development when the two have noting to do with each other. Though I used to roll my eyes when I saw parents struggling to get 2-year olds to sit still for mini soccer clinics. For f*cksakes, get a ball and go out in the backyard. |
They are taking 2011 kids at travel tryouts???? ![]() ![]() ![]() They are 6. How the heck does a 6 year old even know what they like or don't like? I thought it was bad enough that the birth year thing means that 7 year old (old) first graders have to try out for next fall. I have older kids and their skill level and interest at 6 or 7 has almost nothing in common with what they like or are good at now (4th and 6th grades). And yet parents are signing up to schlep their 6 year olds to soccer 4 days per week? Egads, i think we have lost our collective minds. |
Stop the insanity by calling travel parents crazy or obsessive. It is something my kid is good at for the time being, and it keeps him off TV and Computer screens, and he has made some great friends. As long as he keeps up with his homework and reads every night, no issues with them burning off their endless energy into something they want to do. |
Dude, if you have a kid in travel soccer at 6 or 7 years old you are crazy. If you need to pay $3k a year to have somebody keep your 6/7 year old off of TV and computer screens---you need to turn in your parent badge. |
Man, ASA sounds really messed up. |
In fairness, it's all of Arlington. ![]() |
No, nobody is looking at or taking 6 year olds for travel for travel soccer. There might be the occasional January 2010 kid who "plays up" because they missed the cutoff over a couple of days or a few weeks. |
Who are you? ...So you know for a fact that all those girl play-ups are all January 2010s in 1G??? Doubt it. There are surely some of them who are 6 year olds with summer/fall 2010 bdays who are in kindergarten right now and did the tryouts. The travel race starts earlier and earlier. |
Anyone doing Alexandria, LMVSC or Gunston tryouts? |
Yes, the deeper into 2010 you get the less likely it is that any kids are playing up. January to March sure, but it would be pretty rare for many kids younger than that to be playing up. It isn't uncommon for 1-3 kids to play up but to act like "six year olds are now playing travel" is severely overstating the facts. |
^^enough to field an entire team and then some apparently. |
Gonna check out LMVSC on Monday. Not really interested in the other 2 clubs. |
What age group? Boys or girls. Have you heard anything good or bad regarding the program? We were considering going for u11. |
