Spring 2017 soccer club tryouts

If the kid is six or seven years old then the discussion isn't about travel soccer either. The conversation has drifted dramatically from talking about TRAVEL CLUB SOCCER TRYOUTS.

Without tryout season basically over (though a few clubs still have openings -- I know PAC is looking for 2007s), it makes sense to drift into how to prepare for tryouts.

Of course, it's not Spring 2017 any more, either, so maybe the thread should just die.

Which it can't do if people keep complaining that it's drifting.

My kid was 6 last year for junior tryouts and was 7 this year for u9 travel tryouts. Many kids born in 2009 are still 7!

I think this thread died when a PP mentioned that his son's U7 team was undefeated and won every "game" by seven goals. I didn't know that my eyes could roll that far in back of my head.

Who cares about "junior tryouts"!?!? Nobody, that's who.

rising u8 jrs. tryouts in mclean = take as many as you can in order to have enough to run/fund the program. not about taking only the most promising, or the number would vary each year. tryouts = look for the kids who are immature, boot it with their toes, have no motivation/energy/agression, and then cut all of them. it's your kid's program to get cut from basically. parents pony up the big bucks and care about jrs because it is how you make travel a year later, not because it is some amazing oneofakind developing program. after a year of jrs, the coaches have penciled in green, white, gold, etc. teams.

Well that's an overreaction. Have you ever coached a team before, or have you ever been an active parent with your kid's sports activities? It is easy if you have done either one that you can tell how well the team is doing. It doesn't take much to see how strong a team is. Were you offended that I stated a goal differential? As I have stated before, my son is ready for more of a challenge. I have heard both, pros and cons of the Junior program and I am willing to go through it and see for myself.

I think it's hilarious that you kept track of the goal differential as if it means anything.

I did not keep track of the scores. I gave a number off the top of my head. THE POINT was that the team was dominant not to nitpick what how many goals I stated.

Does anyone know if any U10 teams in MoCo still have openings? TIA.

Joga SC is holding more tryouts this week. https://twitter.com/WehdawiDC/status/883838024525783041.

Guess that means they are still having trouble finding enough players. According to their leader, that's just because "parents are stupid".

I checked out the twitter link. You completely quoted him out of context. He made that comment in response to a question about whether recruiting in youth sports is repugnant. I agree with his point that recruiting is a good thing when it gets players to better environments, but it doesn't work well for parents "who are stupid" and just go in search of the biggest name club.

that coach may make counterproductive comments but the Joga SC players from a couple years ago were very, very good. that's all I know

Does Joga SC have girls teams, and if so, at what age groups?
