Most Clubs will only take girls that our travel level and form fewer teams if the # of those aren't there.

Arlington instead determines 6 teams and then fills them with anyone.

These 1st graders (only 2nd next year) would be better off playing Rec with their teammates and maybe a day of Arl academy training.

However, every Arlington resident just tries to keep up with the Joneses and word has gotten out in recent years that of you start them a full year early--you can get them into a higher team the following year when they drop back down.

This is why 7year olds now do travel in this County.

100% correct.  Our tryout was full of very young? girls, some who had no business on travel (kindergarten/1G)

That is complete bullshit and I know it has happened with the boys too.  Next they are going to be canvasing the preschools to get them paying for travel even earlier.  A red team guarantee by Kindergarten if you start $$$ now!  Let them have at it.  The color their kid gets is their barometer of development when the two have noting to do with each other.

Though I used to roll my eyes when I saw parents struggling to get 2-year olds to sit still for mini soccer clinics.  For f*cksakes, get a ball and go out in the backyard.[/quote]
