They will work with girls, though, if they're good enough to play with the boys. |
I heard they raised the fees |
I heard there are major problems with the program. |
I have heard that Achilles FC has grown too fast. The main coach is a great trainer but can't devote enough time to each kid (I guess he has one other coach but about 60 kids). He also raised prices to something like $4,000 to $5,000. Pretty steep. |
My kid’s in Achilles. That’s high! Year round travel is half that, which makes it competitive with top local clubs. But the coaching seems better and which makes it feel like a relative bargain. |
| Sorry, I don't understand. Achilles fees at $4,000 to $5,000 makes it competitive with clubs that cost less than that? I have heard that the training is very good, but that there are only two coaches and about 60 kids. Even if you were the best in the world, you are going to be spread too thin to give the kids what they deserve--especially if they are paying such high fees. . |
He said his fees are half of that. |
| Sorry. I thought the poster meant that his/her kid was in Achilles? |
I wasn’t clear. My son plays for Achilles. Fees are ~2500- not cheap, but we get a lot in terms of coaching quality and practice time. There aren’t many teams so there’s plenty of attention from coaches. They know their kids well! Very happy with the club! |
Where does Achilles practice? What league(s) is it in for games? |
| You must be getting a discount of some sort? Or maybe your child is very young? Prices for u10-u12 are around $3,500 - $4,000. And I thought there were only two coaches for 5 teams/60 kids? |
| Just trying to get an update from parents on how the Fall season went. Was travel what you expected at the lower ages? Did your kids have fun or was it too much? Do you plan to come back next year? Any advice you have to a new parents would be appreciated. |
My advice? Ask you child these questions. Let him or her decide and take the lead. |
My kid really liked it and had a lot of fun-u10/11. It was a little adjustment in terms of style of play(less passing), coaching much better, other kids can hold their own, she has gotten better, rotates through all positions(which is good). She says the game speed is really fast and you get no time or space, but she thinks that is fun. Just remember if you join a team, you take someone else’s spot. Parents and kids really like being on the top team. If you are coming from rec, get some individual training over this winter break. It’s really helps to know common drills and terms. In the spring, contact the clubs you are looking at and attend a few practices. Ideally go to 3 different clubs. See the difference between clubs, where the games are, how long it takes to get to practice/games and if your kid likes the program/coach. It’s a big commitment. Do you diligence. |
| when are the tryouts? |
