I believe he worked from home at least some of time, which gave home flexibility.

Do these cases go to trial? Do the children/victims get questioned by the defense? Seems unbearable.
Will the defense atty try for some sort of deal or push for acquittal?
Unbelievable. Good that he has to stay locked up for now

Thomas is going to fight against the charges.

Then he must have hired a hell of a team. Maybe his Australian government is helping with funding for his defense?

Because of this, and given that his attorney is aggressive, we aren't pursuing pressing charges. We'd really like to do the right thing and add to the existing charges, but we know how the deposition would go, and it's not worth the cost to our kid's mental health.

Do you mean you're not pursuing civil charges? Because it usually it would be up to the prosecutor to press charges in a criminal case.

I am so sorry. I understand your decision.

Would you mind sharing how you know Thomas?

Revealing that would give one too many clues to my kid's identity, and that is something they are incredibly fearful of. (They are older than eight, I'll say that much.) They feel like they're the only one in their community who was affected (it wasn't in the apt. building), but I simply can't imagine that was the case.

I'm not sure I understand how saying how you know Thomas (simply: through swim team, through elementary school, or through apartment building or something else) would identify your child. There's hundreds of kids on the teams and in the school and apartment building.

Wishing you and your child all the healing. I am sorry you're in this situation.

Because PP’s child may have had a unique relationship with one of Thomas’ children that would make the child identifiable or at least somewhat guessable if the community is stated. For example- if community is ASA (not saying it is), what if one child had a best friend on the team that always hug out with Thomas’ kid, travelled together to swim meets, families were close, etc which created conditions for the abuse to occur. Or if community is school, what if there was one family who always traveled with the Mahonys for school breaks, kids were close etc. Circumstances might be such that people who are in that community might be able to make an educated guess as to who the child is.

Folks, let this thread go unless there is any new information that parents of kids potentially affected need to know. The guy is in jail, the prosecutors are doing their jobs, etc... ASA families have a new swim season coming up in a week and should be allowed to focus on that. We are 38 pages into this thread, and as pointed out near the beginning, there is ZERO evidence ASA did anything wrong.

Suggestion to moderators - please revise the title of this thread.

You seem terribly protective of the ASA, do you work for them?

DP - I agree that this thread doesn’t belong in the swimming forum anymore. Not that I don’t think the case is worthy of discussing, but at this point, now that everyone is aware of his connection to MVP and ASA, it isn’t a swimming topic. There has also been nothing to suggest ASA or MVP did anything wrong.

So you think it’s ok to shut down an entire thread because you disagree with the title?

Based on your logic, the title of this thread should be “parent with anonymous affiliations (because we don’t want to offend any organization) arrested”

Read for comprehension, I said the thread doesn’t belong in the swimming forum since it’s not a swimming topic. It doesn’t need to be shut down, but it should be moved to another forum.

Probably an ASA board member trying to censor.

The Washington Post reporter went to the last 'status conference', so I assume it's public.
