The timing on this was not driven by what’s the best time to hire a new coach.

It seems that at the end of the year Prep would understand what happened during the Spring season and how Admissions went. If they felt results in both were disappointing then they started looking at the coach. If the coach had few allies even after being there for several years, he is vulnerable. It would take a few weeks to make this decision if it was made above the level of the AD.

Ideally you’d fire a coach on the day after the season ended. That would give you the maximum time to find a new replacement without having a lame duck coach in place during the season.

The Idea of a “nationwide search” is silly. The. Sheer effort required to do this is beyond the school’s resources including the time available from the AD. Football season is about to start and he is the Varsity coach.

the problem with prep lax starts with AD who is also the head football coach. as long as he is running the ship, don't expect any sexy hire to move the program in the right direction.

That certainly would be the straightest route to take. He may not be the fantasy candidate but he is very well liked at GP by everyone.

And yet we are told he wouldn't be interested and he isn't head coaching material.

But my observation is that its very difficult to predict what he will do.

The one thing that seems to be a constant with Kubik is his unpredictability. Many still have a hard time getting their head around the fact that he coaches for the school's arch rival. (Some would use stronger terms) Now he's also teaching there. For a dyed in the wool Prep guy, that's border line incomprehensible.

How he got to Prep and the circumstances of his attendance there may play a role in how this plays out. This might cancel out his penchant for doing the non-obvious thing.

He certainly doesn’t want to be 4th or 5th choice. That ship sailed 10 years ago

Urick was a good coach in a very good league. Even in a bad year, Hoyas still finished 3rd in the IAC, and beat their Jesuit crosstown rival, Gonzaga.

The timing of pushing at Urick and his staff is foolish. Why push someone out in late July... who did they really think they would land? This really doesn't seem to be very well though out.

Most high-end coaches have signed contracts in place with their current employer, whether it be an independent school or at the collegiate level. No high caliber coach with a family will pack his backs, move his family on a dimes notice.

My gut tells me, if Paro and GP administration can't find a local HS coach, they will likely go with an interim scenario. I'm sure local GP lax bros could run the program for the next 9 months. While this is taking place, Prep should take their time and run a national search.

The whole process seems disorganized and very rushed.

Lack of leadership displayed by Paro and giving into the pressures of crazy parents.

all good points. perhaps they put the program on hold for a year, or ask Urick to come back on short term basis until the find someone?

Urick is not a good coach. He was a super great player and is a super nice guy who should have been let go many years ago. Parents (crazy or not) and alums are in the best position to effectuate change at a private school. So congrats on making it happen finally.

He is definitely not very well liked at GP by everyone.Totally unimpressed by him. He is just fine where he is.
