Because not everyone can afford the prep courses or had parents that put them in Saturday school starting at age 3. Also, I thought we wanted to identify gifted kids. Prepped and gifted are not the same. |
+1. And “who do not even want to prep?” Your privilege is showing. |
well said and very true! |
I hear you, although at the same time, gifted, imaginative, principled and independent-thinking individuals are at a much higher risk of being misunderstood and mislabeled a "jerk" by the wrong crowds. It's a double-edged sword, and one of the problems that gifted programs were meant to address in the first place. |
There is a very small percentage of truly gifted kids. That is why they don’t classify it as such anymore. I actually feel the kids that are self driven to be the gems. Love the kids that yes may be considered smart but not gifted (prepped or not), but want to work hard in all that they do even when it doesn’t come easy. There are very few people in life that don’t struggle academically at some point. Please know that kids still prepped TJ this year. They practiced writing essays and touting the portrait of a graduate and holistic traits. On the positive side, extra writing practice is always a good thing. Unfortunately that is where some got the unethical idea of claiming “free lunch.” |
Maybe we should work to have more inclusive classrooms to learn social skills. Maybe AAP does more harm than good. |
Maybe the AAP kids aren't the problem ![]() |
Opportunity for all to be more inclusive and work on social skills. |
This logic is totally wrong. It is not appropriate to say prepping is wrong just because you cannot afford it. It's ok to seek help from others. It is not ok to ask others to stop what they are doing just because you cannot do it or you are not willing to do it. |
I’m sorry that your child is prepped not gifted. It’s ok as long as your child is ok being prepped and with the workload. If your child has the interest and the drive, that’s great! If you are forcing it and breaking your child for your own ego, you suck. |
It will probably make you disappointed. My child has IQ above 145. people who are smarter than you usually also work harder than you. It's your imagination but not the truth about the part forcing child to do anything. stay unprepared and wait for the mercy of geographic diversity. It's your choice and that's absolutely ok, even though it is a little bit shame. |
Your syntax is pretty poor for someone attempting and failing to lord their child’s supposed IQ over others. Perhaps you should take some of your child’s prep classes. |
diligence is how far you are willing to go, and Intelligence is how far you have the potential to make it go. Smarts doesn't matter if you don't apply it. |
humm seems we are philosophical now
Here's my 2 cents None of this matters All of the AAP/TJ kids will still have to go get a job and have bosses and deal with society There are plenty of people out here who are smarter than their bosses. The sooner kids deal with reality that the rest of the world doesn't care how "smart" they are the better. |
Any idea when will it be first round of selections from waitlist, will it be June 17th or June 24th? |
