Different poster here, and I think this is a dumb question. x being a character trait of y does not mean everyone who does x is y (not that I agree with the above poster on that characterization about people that relocate).

I finally looked up narcissistic personality disorder, and I think it fits M to a T (H a little, but not so much):

Kate and Meghan are two completely different people not one better or worse than the other. But looking at how crappy everyone that supports Kate is towards Megan here makes me NOT like Kate’s supporters ... which in turn is making me start to not like Kate. In some twisted way, watching her demeaned and criticized and treated differently from everyone, bullied by everyone for being different, and Kate is just so perfect makes me like Meghan that much more! I found myself looking at a picture of Kate, and experiencing a growing feeling of unfairness for everyone doting on her. It made me look at the double standards in so many environments globally and stateside, and how unfair it is to treat people badly because they are different. It has made me grow more protective of the weaker person with a larger uphill climb (Meghan in this case). I guess I’m tired of hearing about everyone always talking shit about everyone else - politics, parents, isn’t there a way to be interested without hating? Or respect and observe without trying to intentionally tear down?

There are a ton of mean bullies commenting here. It’s truly very sad to see.

I hope everyone is able to settle into their vision for their family happily: both Kate and Meghan.

USA is a poster child for racism based on socioeconomic stratification. If you're rich and wealthy and black, you're fine. It's even lauded to make your way up from nothing - see Barack Obama, Oprah, Beyonce, Will Smith, Kamala Harris, Condoleeza Rice etc.

Britain however is a class-based system that no matter how wealthy you are - you are lower than those born into nobility. And not only is the nobility a class unto themselves they are also stratified within that based on land or financial wealth alongside heritage. Heritage which as a baseline - means being purely white if not of Anglo-Saxon heritage for 10 direct generations at least.

The point is - in Britain no matter how successful you become, you're still your class. i.e. the Rebekah Vardys and Victoria Beckhams of the world.

So I honestly think the U.S. is better because once you make it - acceptance is guaranteed. You just have to work hard or be born with enough money. Then move to like-minded areas.

Impossible to do and find in the UK. So yes, I don't blame Meghan for leaving. She was the 4th highest ranking woman in Britain among the nobles, but couldn't escape the double punch of being born middle class AND biracial.

Kate had to deal with the same thing and still gets ragged on for being born middle class. The Queen Mother (the current Queen's mom) was ragged on within the royal family for being born to ONLY a minor noble and not one with well-landed heritage or provenance either.

There are many of us who were both Team Kate and Meghan. I woke up early to watch both weddings. People here deride Kate for being bland, happy, and a rule follower.

Meghan and Harry, on the other hand, have gone from one blunder to another. Their behavior has been appalling. For me, two things have stood out before this "quitting senior royal life fiasco"- the jet travel and the woe is me whining in Africa. Complaining about "not living" amidst such poverty and tragedy is absolutely disgusting. They made the tour about themselves, which is beyond selfish.

This stunt with stepping back as senior royals takes it to another level.

The excuses about the media treatment is a red herring. People who say - oh I don't blame her wanting to quit royal life are misled. They never wanted to quit royal life, they only wanted to quit the tedious parts of it, and make a fortune for themselves. What they really want to do is to monetize their roles as public servants and enrich themselves, gallivant as celebrities, while fully expecting the British public to pay for their security.

If you are okay with that behavior, then you have Meghan and Harry Derangement Syndrome.

I am totally on board with you PP. As a long time Princess Di fan who watched her wedding as a young child, I woke up early to watch both weddings. For Meghan's wedding I woke up my 8 year old daughter and we ate scones, drank tea and wore tiaras, mesmerized by Meghan, her beauty and so excited for an American biracial princess thay we literally cried. A new era!

Two years later, I feel everything PP said. She is just an awful manipulative human being who has broken up her family and Harry's. She divided the man she "loves" from his heritage, his country, his friends, his family. I have dealt with narcissists before and once you have been caught in their charming trap, they isolate you from family and friends, make you dependent solely on them, your life becomes hell and you become a shell of who you once were.

As the DD of a diagnosed narcissist (my father), I can't believe folks have the hubris to opine on Meghan's mental health and her marriage. You don't know M&H, will never interact with them on anything other than a superficial level and they have absolutely no impact on your life. Why such emotion? PP here. I also had to deal with the fall out of the most charming loved beautiful narcissist who literally destroyed my life. Now all is good since I got away.
