No reason why they can't but clearly they don't want to. Ask Kaya Henderson, David Grosso, Mayor Bowser.

They are planning one. In Ward 7. Will you send your child there?

If my kid can make it through the app process, YES I WILL!

Where can one find out more about this? I heard it was on hold while they launch the new Ron Brown high school/empowering students of color initiative?

There's been some speculation for Winston Education Campus in Hillcrest and the Hillcrest community has petitioned DCPS to make this to happen. It's a nice location but the facility has fewer windows than a prison. There are charter operators equally interested in the facility. It's currently being used for administrative purposes.

Thanks. Also curious about timing and whether there is a community planning group (as there is for MacFarland).

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen anything more 1975 than the stylized brickwork on the front of that school.

it's pretty wild. the developer probably had a surplus of red bricks and felt the cost of signage could be pocketed

Famous last words.

DH was bussed an hour each way to a middle school magnet. DCPS won't provide busses, so that is worse, but based on DH's experience, no, we would not send our children to a school that far away from home.

Too late for our kids anyway.

It's far from upper NW, but there are metros and buses. And from the Hill, it's great: a 20-minute direct bus ride from Brent; probably an equal or easier commute than Latin, Basis, or Hardy. I would definitely consider it if my kid got in, and would love for it to have a curriculum aligned in a way that helped kids prepare for the Banneker/SWW/McKinley Tech application process.

It's not that far from Ward 6 and it's an easy straight shot and served by transit (.5 mi from Branch Ave Green line station). 36 bus takes you door to door from Eastern Market to Winston EC in 15 minutes.

I still wouldn't hold my breath for it.

The outside of that building is horrible. WTF were they thinking in the 70's (oil shock).

That's great if you live in Ward 6. I googled the route, and it would take an hour in the morning from our house. Much, much longer by public transit.
