Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
The kids have more barriers to learning than a school system should be tasked to deal with. The schools cannot control the home life and environment outside of the schools. FCPS clearly doesn't know how to educate them. |
Small school districts [1-3 high schools] have made good projections. What can cause big bump in membership without something like building major new housing? 1 had lost attending a Catholic HS. That declined and rapid movement out. |

so the leaked maps thread that got locked 30 mins ago:
Take this with a grain of salt, but my friend who works at Gatehouse said that the redistricting plans in store for FCPS are going to be surprising to many. I have no idea if the following is true or not, but I wanted to highlight some potential moves in the works. My source stated that some low-income schools will be moved to other low-income schools to muddy the waters on any criticism that FCPS is ONLY moving UMC kids to low-performing schools. Potential Moves: The entirety of Wakefield Forest ES will be moved from Frost/Woodson to Poe/Annandale. Not just those living on the east side of Wakefield Chapel Road. Ravensworth ES will also be zoned out of LBSS to Annandale as well. To make room for this at Annandale and to supply Lewis with more students, Bren Mar Park ES and Weyanoke ES will be moved from Edison and AHS. Willow Springs ES will be moved out of Johnson/Fairfax to Robinson. Waples Mill ES will entirely be moved into Fairfax and the Greenbriar East areas that feed into Fairfax will be moved to Oakton. Fairhill ES will also be moved into Fairfax. Forestville ES will be moved to HMS/HHS. Oak View ES will entirely move to Robo while Terra Centre will be switched to Lake Braddock. Hunt Valley ES will be rezoned to Key/Lewis. These are the major HS-related moves that will potentially occur. Keep in mind ES and MS boundaries will be tweaked to accommodate these moves. My source could be completely wrong, so keep that in mind. |
I am on the Boundary Review Committee. We haven't even started discussing any scenarios yet. We're still looking at all the comments from the community meetings. The reality is the school board is going to make the decisions. So they may have already decided on the above and we're just "working" so it appears the community has input. |
The OP for this post explicitly stated to take this with a grain of salt and stated that it could be 100% wrong. The fact that it's so detailed and that the thread was locked almost immediately makes me think this plan is more likely than not. Suspicious... |
| We are at Ravensworth and under 10 minutes walking distance to Lake Braddock. I hope your source is wrong! |
If the above results become true then it's proof the superintendent has not engaged with the community in good faith. More ammo for FairFACTS Matters. |
| The changes make some sense; except Greenbriar East. They need to move the whole school, no more splits. |
| Waples Mill to Johnson/Fairfax somewhat makes sense. Basically an even trade if they lose Willow Springs to RSS. |
Yep. Willow Springs should either go to Centreville or Robinson. |
Ideally Centreville since it's right down the street, although we all know how massive CVHS is, so Robo it is. |
The thread was locked because this thread about boundaries already exists. I think Jeff decided to let people speculate as long as it's contained in one thread. Once it hits 999 pages, you can start another. |
You are the one inferring that systems run by the government either cannot be the premium choice or are necessarily undesirable. Why would that be, exactly? |
| Another post (https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1255416.page) says possible rezoning. My question is if entire ES moved, are the schools then shut down? That’s what I don’t follow. That poster lists multiple schools saying they all move entirely to other schools? |
And an incredible waste of time for everyone on BRAC. |
