I would never buy from Temu or Shein. Those are everything wrong with shopping. I also would never shop from 'affordable luxury' like Quince or Everlane. Never felt the slightest temptation. If I can't afford what I actually want...I just don't buy it?

A logo/brand isn't the only point of difference. I know how to sew and know a lot about fabrics and fit. Even if you use the same fabrics as a high-end brand, it's really hard to come up with good designs. With these copycat brands, there are always fit issues, and uninspiring designs. Overall, I judge people who buy dupes and don't value design and creativity.

My grandparents lived in an apartment in Queens for decades, until their deaths. They got rent control when they moved in around in ... 1958 or 1959, so imagine how low their rent was in 2010. They had a nice two bedroom with lots of friends and relatives around, could walk to many of their errands, lots of green space, it was great. Zero downside.
