| 6 months ago while training for a half marathon I gained 10 lbs which I have not been able to take off. I am interested in Weight Watchers because I think the group accountability will help me stick to a good eating problem. However, I've always envisioned that the meetings are mainly women who are looking to lose a lot of weight and at 5'2 and 138lbs. I'm afraid that they would not appreciate my presence. For anyone who has done the weight watchers meetings, do you honestly think I would be able to fit in. |

You'll be fine. Many people stick around after they lose all their weight for continued accountability. Others never had as much as to lose as others. Some people only want to drop 15 lbs for x event, some people want to lose 150. Everyone has different goals. No one will look at you twice.
I went for the first time late in college as a size 10 at 5' 9". |
| All kinds. |
| You may be big boned but your weight seems high for your height. I don't think you're too thin to attend. Not at all. You could probably stand to lose 30 pounds which is a lot. |
|
Go and see how it goes, I'm guessing supportive groups will vary by who is there moreso than how much they weigh.
I will say, as a former overweight person, that your struggles of being 10lbs past your ideal weight for a grand total of 6 months may not be seen as a hardship, there will be people there who have been overweight and have deep seated emotional eating issues for years and years. You may just want to keep quiet about your origin story at first and be there for the tips and accountability more. |
| I'm a bit taller than you and 20 pounds lighter and I am fine. I'm on maintenance as are many others. You can join as long as you are some small amount over your healthy weight (maybe 10 pounds?). And you are definitely above your healthy weight. |
You sound like someone who doesn't exercise. OP, how much of that 10lbs is fat? The more I run, the bigger my thighs get - and it's definitely muscle. I also gained about 5-10lbs since I started strength training. My clothes aren't tight, and I'm definitely leaner. Fitting back into your pre-training clothes is one thing, but don't get so hung up on the scale number. |
Not true. When I was 100 lbs overweight, I thought like this. I thought, why would anyone care about 10 silly pounds. But after I lost the weight, I go back to WW all the time for a 10 pound tune up. Tons of people like this there. |
You're right. 138 on 5'2 is simply because the op is athletic. Haha. |
| Op should try and get down to 115. This is over 20 pounds and over ten percent of your body weight. I think ten percent is the first goal at weight watchers. Look at some photos of women in the 1940s-50s. We are used to seeing fat people these days. You're not thin. At all. |
| How did this thread turn into a debate over OP's ideal weight? Good grief. |
Because she thinks she's too thin for weight watchers. |
I don't think I'm "thin" but I assumed that weight watchers meetings consisted of extremely overweight women. I wear a size 6 in jeans (although they are snug) |
Lol omg haha. But how many half marathons have you run? |
Seriously - what a bunch of miserable losers. Does it really feel that great to anonymously tell some woman that she's fat, not thin, and should go lose 30 pounds? |
