Weight Watchers meetings for someone who is 138lbs

Anonymous
I recently started weight watchers online to lose 20 lbs (I am at 150, 5-5, so just barely out of the normal BMI zone). So far so good. You can pick your coaches based on how much weight they lost or other factors. I didn't have time for meetings. So far so good - lost 3 lbs in a week!

As long as you are 5 lbs over the low end of healthy BMI, you are eligible for WW. I go to meetings and would say it is maybe 25% very heavy people, 50% 20-50 lbs to lose, and 25% less than 20 to lose.

I will say, a woman recently hit her goal weight and the leader asked her to share what she learned and her thoughts. After she gave a few tips, someone asked her how much she lost -- 13 lbs. You could definitely feel a little deflation and people being less impressed, but then again we have a woman who lost 200 lbs in our meeting. Everyone was still very nice and clapped, but no one was too impressed.

Another thing you see is people might need to lose 15-20 lbs to get in the goal range so they can stop paying, but they continue on to lose another 15+ lbs while at lifetime to get lower in the range.

Aren't you kind PP?!! Since OP clearly works out, she may weigh more because of muscle. She said she has 10 pounds to lose which makes her ideal weight 128. That is not necessarily overweight for an athlete.

I'm 5' 1" . The first time I went to WW, I weighed 136 and felt like a tub. It didn't matter what anyone else thought. I was glad I was there and ended up losing 28 pounds.

That said, I remember attending a meeting one day that wasn't at my regular place. A woman was celebrating that she had met her goal weight and lost 10 pounds. There was some definitely rumbling in the crowd and one woman even suggested the woman who was celebrating didn't need to be there. Fortunately, we had a great leader who chastised the people who had criticized her and reminded us all that part of what makes WW work is that it's a support group and we support each others individual goals regardless of what they are.

Definitely, go OP. If you get any flack find a better meeting.

I would think it would be insulting for the truly overweight people to have someone as fit and thin as OP in their group. How could they relate to each other?

You sound like someone who doesn't exercise.

OP, how much of that 10lbs is fat? The more I run, the bigger my thighs get - and it's definitely muscle. I also gained about 5-10lbs since I started strength training. My clothes aren't tight, and I'm definitely leaner. Fitting back into your pre-training clothes is one thing, but don't get so hung up on the scale number.

You're right. 138 on 5'2 is simply because the op is athletic. Haha.
NP here. I can't speak for OP but I'm 5'3" and 140 pounds and most of it is muscle, given that I work out 5 days a week. It really depends on the person's body type and how athletic they are. If I lost 30 pounds, I would probably have an eating disorder and have to be hospitalized.

Seriously - what a bunch of miserable losers. Does it really feel that great to anonymously tell some woman that she's fat, not thin, and should go lose 30 pounds?
Especially because they are ignorant and most likely wrong.
