Cat Does Not Love Me

Anonymous
Adopted a cat not too long ago for the sole purpose of receiving cuddles and love. Cat will not cuddle or reciprocate affection.

What do I do?

Name him George, and hug him, and pet him, and squeeze him.

I do hug him and squeeze him. All the time. It makes him more distant.

The cat is not a toy. Stop hugging the cat. Let the cat come to you. If he doesn't, get a dog.

Are you saying I should rehome him?

My cat hid from me for months before finally warming up. After that, she was only comfortable around me and would hide from any visitors.

Why did you pick that particular cat to adopt? Was he huggy when you were getting him, and then he changed?

Thank you! I'll give him more time to warm up with me.

Yes, he was giving the warmth at the shelter and was showing much affections. Now he only attacks my ankles and would like to eat my skin.

I am saying give him time and don't expect him to act just the way you want him to. Not all cats are cuddly the way some people want them to be. If you want really cuddly, etc., you may be a dog person rather than a cat person.

Dogs are too much in my personal space.

Our last cat would rub up against you when he was hungry, other than pet him at your own risk. New cat is a lap cat. They are a crap shoot.

But it is the job of the cat to provide cuddles for food. This cat only attacks the ankles.

Right now this cat glares at me from across the room. He makes many meows but gives no cuddles, only very angry eyes.

I've been there. My advice is get him a kitten, a little girl. He will love her, and she will love you. I had 12 great years this way!
