Nick and June definitely love each other, but I firmly believe they shouldn’t end up together. I don’t think she should end up with either of them.

Agreed with all of this, but Luke deserves better.
Trauma and danger can really cause intense romantic love.

I would love to see them get Hannah back and stay together, but that's probably a pipe dream. I don't think Luke deserves better--June did the best she could in a terrifying and traumatic situation.

+1 two thoughts on Luke - I think he’s a total jerk for asking June to meet up with her rapist and bring her baby along. As that scene unfolded I couldn’t believe how straightforward his request was - zero recognition that meeting up with your rapist might be a tough thing to do. (And, yes, I know that’s not how June views Nic - but Luke doesn’t know that).

Next - I can’t tell if his acting is horrible or the writing is. All he does is act whiny and simpers.

And, finally, does every-single-show need to start and end with her face.

Luke only wants his daughter. He doesn't care about June or Nicole.

Waterford flipped for what, asylum in Canada? And I just don’t get what intelligence he has that will help anyone. Prisoner exchange would have made more sense than informant.

I don’t think that’s how/when Hot Diplomat would have told them about a deal with Fred.

Plus, why wouldn’t Nick flip and defect to Canada? Is it because of worrying about his new wife, is that what the ring thing was about?

I don’t care any more about Elizabeth Moss’s face. I thought the catholic school stuff was hokey.

Agree, it was really bizarre and drawn out. None of it made sense. Why wouldn't Nick just leave.

I agree. The world-building had gone off the rails this season. The writers are asking us to suspend disbelief but it’s too much.

Oh, I didn't read the Nick thing from Luke that way. I thought it was more like, go meet up with your boyfriend and I will look the other way. He does know how she feels about Nick, because of those tapes she sent him.

I actually think how he has handled Nick is the best thing about Luke so far. He's doing the right thing by being understanding, even though it's hard. It's not like a normal "affair." It's complicated, obviously.

I LOLed at the June's Face Volvo scene and then the pan up to the countryside. Laughed out loud for real.

Not true. And did you forget that June told Luke she LOVED Nichole's father?

Probably his printer broke so he couldn't print out a Canada ID.

j/k though I think it was the wife thing. We haven't met her but presumably if he defected, she would be killed/sent to the colonies/whatever.

Another sloppy thing I didn't like - an Aunt referred to the "breeding colony." I don't think she would have used that term in front of Aunt Lydia. They called it a Magdalene camp or something iirc. I just think they're phoning it in. Possibly because they were literally phoning it in, I think. Zooming.

This season is awful, I’m hate watching at this point. It’s like plots being written as fan fiction

The writers have used a few different tactics to show that Lydia has lost the respect of the other aunts. I don’t think that’s sloppy- they’re illustrating an evolution in the power dynamic.

Nick can’t/won’t “just leave” because he’s a war criminal, traitor, insurrectionist, rapist (it’s on the record that he raped June that first time, in her testimony), etc. He now has a wife who he’s responsible for. And he feels a whole lot of guilt over everything he’s done to build and sustain Gilead. I think he’s going to try to protect whoever he can from his place as a Commander until he gets caught.

I think Nick won't defect because he was one of the early Sons of Jacob and he believes some of the rhetoric and feels obligated to serve Gilead because of the opportunity it gave him when he was down.

Will Nick have a handmaid? Janine?

I thought it was weird Nick, Nichole and June could just meet up alone in that house. Security just left them alone and hung out outside? Nick could have killed June since she’s such an important asset to the Americans/Canadians. It made no sense they just trust this high ranking Commander.

I think he's a double agent and will end up dead but a hero to America. I would not be surprised if he was deployed by the FBI to infiltrate the Sons of Jacob prior to the coup.

He obviously has a network of spies and has for a long time. Wasn't he the one to deliver the letters in Canada that got Fred and Serena kicked out of Canada when they visited the first time. He got these recent pictures of Hannah through "friendlies" - his words. Wasn't he the one to prevent Fred from leaving the house when Nichole was being smuggled out. He has men loyal to him that will facilitate him meeting June before she's turned over to Lydia.

I could be wrong, but I think Nick may be one of the only ones to really be playing the long game. The reason he hid his marriage from June is because he wants June to still be in love with him. He's managing her.

June told Luke she was I love with Nick at some point. Luke was sacrificing his own feelings to get Hanna back. Basically June was right. He is willing to lose June to get Hanna.

I think Luke also probably feels INTENSE guilt for not getting June and Hannah out earlier, when things started getting bad. The whole situation is incredibly complicated. Like she said in that taped message to him, she had to create a life of sorts for herself while she was essentially imprisoned. Obviously at the time she made that tape she knew Luke was alive, but she thought he was dead for some period of time.

Agreed. I don’t think Luke thinks Nick raped June.
