Not PP but I keep coming back to laugh at the people here about to pop a blood vessel arguing that $350K isn't UMC/UC because they are saving thousands upon thousands a year and have no money for white lines and hookers.

I’m the person you quoted that finds it stupid, and personally, it doesn’t make me laugh. It just shows me how clueless the UC is. It’s frustrating and insulting to those of us that ARE the struggling MC. (Own the actual average priced house of ~200k, make the actual median wage of 60k, send kids to public school, barely save for retirement, live paycheck to paycheck with no backup, do a road trip to somewhere a few hours away for vacation if you’re even able to afford one this year, etc...) if the MC had the lifestyle some of these posters are complaining about we wouldn’t have so many people feeling left behind and angry in our country today, and might actually feel like their kids will do better than them and move up the ladder.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/personalfinance/2013/10/24/retirement-health-care-social-security/3169827/ many Americans don’t expect to retire

(I only cite the article for the statistics, not this BS “oh everyone can save and have a plan!” Because no, if everyone just saved that would cause a recession).

Do you feel like your kids won’t do better than you because they grow up in an average house going to public schools and not taking big vacations every year?

How about the undergraduate and graduate school debt of anyone making $350/year, or those with more than 2 kids, and with unpaid FMLA leave for maternity leave.

This is not accurate. It is much harder for DH and me to make ends meet than this article appears to state and we have NO room for college savings when our 3 little ones grow up. And, daycare is NOT sufficient. In order for us to make $370k/year in our legal jobs, we have a nanny EVERY day that picks up our little ones from daycare and we need to go out to eat a lot more often because we do not have time. Our weekends are often at work so we need nannies then too.

Almost every day I understand why women quit their jobs to raise kids and we still are not equal -- DH and I would save about $5/day if I were to quit, even though our income would HALVE. Think about it.

You have full time nannies for weekdays AND weekends, and go out to eat "a lot" for $5/day? Somehow this math seems off.

You sure aren’t paying your nanny much.

I don't get why people expect to have 2 high powered careers and kids. It's not possible

On a more positive note it sucks that college loan payments and daycare and mortgage payments all generally happen at the same time but again some of this is by choice. Consider a smaller house or less kids. On the flip your income will just grow over time and expense will drop considerably after college loans and they are out of daycare. Housing costs and private school costs are both choices

My parents keep asking my sister when she’s going to have kids and she says once they've finished paying off student loans and saved for a house. Smart on one hand but they’re already 36 and 37 and still have a few years to go.

What a stupid article.

We make 500k and live in a home worth 800k. Pur PITI is 2400/mo.

Only a fool at that income buys that much house.

How much did you put down?? Because our $659k mortgage is over that. Our property taxes alone are $800 per month and our interest rate is 3.2%

So clearly the people did not finance over a million?

So we paid a nanny $25 an hour which works out to 50k-ish a year

My company did 9% of my salary into a 401k = 15k

Paid our health premiums= around 1590 per month= 19k

So it is really worth me keeping to work and have not even gotten to salary or other benefits yet.

Yep, these upperclass Soul cyclers spinning away their organic greens and outbidding each other on walkable sh$* shacks are needlessly burning through so much cash that they are clueless how ANYONE could SURVIVE on less than 200k. They are just the new version of Marie Antoinette. This is the reason we got trump yet still they carry on insulting most Americans with articles like Op posted.

Marie Antoinette is a bit of a stretch. You’re comparing a large number of people to the extremely wealthy Queen of France?
