It looked like the left wing of the board saddled the school with a stupid name because they couldn't stand the idea of cooperating with Elizabeth Schultz.

I'll be voting for Republican candidates next time. They could not possibly make a bigger hash of this than Evans did.

Yes. I vote on issues, too. Wasting taxpayer money on something like this is a great example of an issue that concerns me. Ignoring the community's wishes is another issue that disturbs me.

This was something that could have been easily resolved. The SB could/should have just directed that the school would be referred to as Stuart years ago. without going through a name change.They could have directed that references to Jeb be eliminated as uniforms, etc. were replaced. In a few years, the Jeb part would have been eliminated.

Money saved: close to $1million.

Actually, not so much do they send a message. I bet if you ask Woodson students, that few know who it was named for unless the school makes an issue of it. Same with Robinson.

No one is "sucking up" to the Confederacy when they think the money would be better spent elsewhere. Dropping "Jeb" long ago, would have solved that issue, in any case.

If the vast majority never gave it a thought, the school never would have taken pains to paint over the Confederate flag, you wouldn't have old alumni literally sobbing before the School Board about changing the name, and you wouldn't have groups of neo-Confederates starting up new web sites to preserve the memory of JEB Stuart.
