You seem confused. It was the snowflakes that wanted the name changed.

Another useless guesture that will do nothing to improve student education.

Nope. The snowflakes are the big whiners who can't deal with change. "Boo boo. We can't have our racist school name anymore. Poor us." Bunch of f*cking snowflakes.

Every school named after a white man or woman was identity politics.

You don't understand the meaning of the term.

If you've yet to realize that a 1958 decision of an all-white school board to name a school after a Confederate general wasn't an act of identity politics, I'm not sure there's much left to be done for you.

It was insensitive--but this business of Massive resistance likely had nothing to do with it. That is people putting their own point of view on what happened then. Stuart was a famous Confederate general who had a campsite at Munson Hill. The SB at that time likely had grandfathers who fought for the Confederacy. So, it was not at all unusual for them to do that. Yes, it was insensitive--but there is no documentation to indicate that was what they were doing. They had reasons to think that geographic names were not a good idea--there is documentation to support that.

This business of attributing evil motives to people who are long dead (the '50's SB members) is ridiculous. And, it continues with some of the comments made on here about other SB members.

Identity politics is choosing a name (or a candidate) based on their race. I don't think that the SB at that time thought they had to pick a white person--they were picking a historical figure. Like it or not, Stuart was a glorified Virginian at that time. You are placing 2017 attitudes on something that happened over fifty years ago. Insensitive? Yes. Spiteful? No. Just because people repeated it over and over from our current SB, does not make it true.

And you know what they were thinking? You "don't think the SB at the time thought they had to pick a white person"? That is laughable! Do you really think anyone on that school board in 1958 thought they had an option to pick a black persons? Keep telling yourself that. Repeat it as many time as you want and it still doesn't make it true.

Boo boo. Quit whining, snowflake.

The Raiders are fighting back. This time the students will be heard!

Most of the people signing this petition are not students.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but Justice high really sounds like a juvenile detention center. Too bad warrior is taken as a mascot, social justice warrior would be a great team name.

Actually, if you google it, you will find that Justice is the name of at least one juvenile detention/redemption high school in Colorado.

It is an unfortunate selection of a name--especially, in light of the way this process was pursued.

LOL

The mission of Justice High School is to provide year round college prep education for all enrolled Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley students. Justice High School's curriculum and program design is ideal for at risk youth who are disconnected from the traditional school system because of juvenile delinquency, drugs and alcohol, alienation, or other factors. Justice High provides its students with a structured academic setting with high expectations. Justice High's philosophy is that these 'at risk' youth can become successful if given an opportunity and structured environment. The school's program provides instruction using the AP model. Justice High's educational program will allow students attending full time to finish their high school requirements within two to three years. Justice High School does not discriminate in its hiring practices nor its admission of students. Justice High gives each student the opportunity to grow into respectful adults who will have the knowledge, will, and self-esteem to succeed in college and life.

Did Sandy Evans even consider field testing the name--did she even do a "google" search?

Let's see what we have so far:

a juvie high school

Buford Justice (a la Smokey and the Bandits)--great mascot, by the way--dressed in a trooper uniform (highly padded) with a trooper hat

Just-ICE (particularly ironic, considering the demographics)

Social Justice Warriors

There are very few people who actually like Justice as the new name. Those who claim to like it only do so because they don't want to embarrass Evans any more than Schultz did last week.

How many other JEB Stuart high schools are there? Oh - none. No one else wanted to use a racist traitor name. Nice choice, FCPS. Showed your true colors.
