So my review as a parent is that I wish our team could have played in the larger FPYC tournament, this one definitely had fewer participants. I wish the seeding/qualificiation process was better, but overall the tournament was run fine.

The Loudoun team only has 5 practices before the tournament. They don't practice together all season. The majority of the team does remain the same from season to season so the girls are familiar with each other.

Being the same from season to season seems really shady.

Would you rather have your all star team play more regular season rec teams so you can get an easy win or would you rather face some good competition and try to motivate to win and get better. If you are really that sore about it, just wait until u13 and then you don't have to cry about it anymore when loudoun stops participating.

My kids haven't played All-Stars in five years. I honestly don't remember if they ever played Loudoun.

No, I just think it's not fair to other Loudoun players if the same people make it every year.

Of course it's not fair. You've left 'everyone gets a chance' territory with all-stars, though. Sign up to be a coach/tryout assessor after you nominate your own kid and you'll get them on the team if it bothers you that much.

My kids are too old to play youth soccer, and we don't live in Loudoun.

Loudoun is shady, there is no echo in here. Your teams do not compete in the same recreational league that everyone else does, which can reasonably lead most to believe these are permanent teams who compete in other events, perhaps tournaments in other areas.

Now one might conclude that that's a form of travel. But you're right about one thing, teams do it differently, some are transparent and ethical, others are Loudoun.

This is a crazy take.

Both of my kids were on Loudoun all star teams. They tried out, practiced separately from their teams, and played together in a single tournament. They enjoyed the entire process - for example my daughter’s all stars coach was a travel coach and she learned so much. You can hate Loudoun but you should have your facts straight.

Now, put them on one team together, then having them play against a "regular" rec team.

this is called sandbagging... essentially playing a level down below the team's playing level just to win. This is what loudon does at every level with their top teams.

That sounds like such a Fairfax County thing to do, except that in Fairfax County, the goal would be to get on the most exclusive travel team possible by any means necessary, so it wouldn't actually affect rec.

I disagree. I think LS parents were mostly quiet on this thread. They are simply responding to an unhinged CYA team that has been harassing them for over 6 months and 2 tournaments.

I think the point was being that made that if you are upset that you can't win all stars then do something about it instead of trying to disqualify another team or cry on DCUM that they shouldn't be there. At the end of the day they are all 10 year old kids regardless of whether they play for LS, CYA, SYA or MLS or whatever.

Has anyone noticed that no Arlington teams participate in these, it's because they have their own league. They have their own end of season rec tournament where all the teams play each other for a few games and there is no need for an All-Star tournament.

Instead of doing the same thing, Loudon takes the top players out of a pool of like 200 players and goes and competes against other all-star teams pulling from a pool of about 50 players. What do you think is going to happen

By the way, you all wonder why the coaching at loudon is so bad, because they already have stacked teams because of the large player base, and they can steamroll other teams with Rodney Dangerfield as the coach
