anyone know about the "Virginia Valor Fathers Day Fiesta" or the "FPYC Fathers Day Tournament"

The tournament sucked but its not Loudoun kids fault that they didn't have enough teams to have different levels. Beating teams 20-0 all
weekend is a waste of time. LS should let them play in a real tournament.

Loudoun had pressure on them to participate in Valor's tournament because of their travel ECNL partnership with Valor. I'm sure most of those kids and parents would have preferred the better competition at FPYC. Also, they would have preferred not to have Conspiracy Karen whining about them beating her kids team again.

Honestly I don't understand the desire to run the score up that high anyway. When I was a kid and you got up by that much the coach would make you do so many passes before attacking, non dominate foot only, something to make it worthwhile without being demoralizing. Either way my daughter's team got destroyed by one Loudoun team and beat the other. She did say that in the game with the better of the teams there was a girl in that team that was actually saying good pass or good job when her team did manage to do something during the game. That was a positive. Overall the kids knew Loudoun was a good team and didn't take it too personally when they lost.

We were a rec team, but had girls chosen from across multiple rec teams, so it was an "All Star" thing for us. However, this team only got to have three practices together before this weekend. When we go against Loudoun, who has had a team picked from across their entire county and have been practicing together for a entire season, it does feel rather like David and Goliath. But in any case, the tournament should be all rec teams. I guess the choice to do a season long all star team is up to the organization, and CYA/SYA just doesn't do that.

And yes, with the low participation in this tournament, there were teams that were the regular season rec teams that went to the tournament as a team. But I do know at least one of those teams made the final.

I wish there had been a consolation game for our age group. We were up against the top Loudoun team in our flight for our first game, and when we lost that first game, we basically lost any chance at the finals even though we tied for 2nd for points across our age group.

So my review as a parent is that I wish our team could have played in the larger FPYC tournament, this one definitely had fewer participants. I wish the seeding/qualificiation process was better, but overall the tournament was run fine.

The Loudoun team only has 5 practices before the tournament. They don't practice together all season. The majority of the team does remain the same from season to season so the girls are familiar with each other.

Being the same from season to season seems really shady.

I’m not sure what you mean by calling Loudoun “shady”. Are you just being a sore loser?

Jesus, at least be honest, everyone knows Loudoun games the system and doesn't even compete in the SFL, now NWSL, like every other participating REC team.

But please enlighten us on this team of strangers coming together one week in June. Go ahead, we'll wait.

I'm still not hearing any reasons for them to be called "shady", it really makes you sound like a sore loser. Are you upset that they practice earlier in the season? Any league could put their all star teams together at the beginning of the season instead of at the end and start have semi regular practices to be better prepared. Would you rather have your all star team play more regular season rec teams so you can get an easy win or would you rather face some good competition and try to motivate to win and get better. If you are really that sore about it, just wait until u13 and then you don't have to cry about it anymore when loudoun stops participating.

My kids haven't played All-Stars in five years. I honestly don't remember if they ever played Loudoun.

No, I just think it's not fair to other Loudoun players if the same people make it every year.

That sucks. The rec families get screwed for some fake partnership that is just on paper and has nothing to do with them OR with All Stars?

Some of the brackets didn't have a championship game and were decided on points, which makes coaches want to run up the PD.

Exactly! The partnership is only at the travel soccer level and even at that only at the top most ECNL level. Had nothing to do with the rec teams at all... in fact nothing to do with 90% of the travel players either.

The people who run Valor and LS don't give an F about rec kids.

How hard is it to buy medals that don't immediately break? Its like they are trying to say "F U" to the all star kids.

It was a waste of time and a lovely summer weekend and our family won't participate again.

I told our league (BAC) we were very unhappy with the tournament and that our family would only be interested in playing in the FPYC even next year. I don't understand why we switched in the first place.

LS isn’t in the NWSL? What the heck is the NWSL? I remember you saying the same things on a Herndon A-S tournament thread last fall. Wasn’t it determined that you are a bunch of Not Winning Sore Losers (NWSL) from a CYA team? Are you the same team that complained then too? You guys need to get a life.

What a nutty complaint. LS has enough players that they can do intramural league at the older ages.

Most local clubs participate in NCSL because they can only field a handful of older teams, so their kids need other teams to play.

Of course it's not fair. You've left 'everyone gets a chance' territory with all-stars, though. Sign up to be a coach/tryout assessor after you nominate your own kid and you'll get them on the team if it bothers you that much.

Exactly. How is it Loudoun Soccer's fault they have so many players in their system that they can very easily have their own rec league?

That's not how loudoun works. Go to their website they clearly describe their all-Star process.
