What parts of your life/lifestyle are unapproved by DCUM standards?

I believe more parents should encourage their kids to go to trade school instead of college.

To not look down on those who choose that path rather than striving for a group of colleges who are only special because they are part of a college football league. There is zero special about an IVY.

I'm fat. That seems to be enough.

My family of 4 (2 tweens) share one hotel room on vacation.

We enjoy cruises.

I wear comfortable sandals.

A lot of DC young women are fat, especially those who work for federal government.

Having two kids before 20

Grade: F

I also had two kids before 20 (I married their dad though). One of my kids is in top universities now, one is graduating HS in a few weeks and I will be empty nester before 40.

This thread is a good indication why this region would be better off if this forum did not exist.

The moderator pretends to hold all the correct views but he profits by monetizing the insecurities of people in the region as well as their racism and classism.

I am betting a lot of us got sucked in by defending our neighborhoods, schools, and lifestyles, but then at some point decided the best defense was a good offense - whereupon we also became part of the problem.

In any event this forum is truly toxic, even if addictive, and we would be better off if it did not exist. I don’t really know how the moderator lives with himself for making this area a less pleasant place to live.

There have also been threads about good advice people have gotten here, or products you've discovered on here. Like anything else in life YOU choose what topics and issues you want to engage with. I ignore the noise and occasionally get good advice or perspective here.

I'm a white woman from central Europe and I adore high end, ornate desi jewelry, especially the pieces with untreated gemstones.

Please. This place is like heroin. There's no choice involved after the first hit.

I'm appalled at the dying biosphere, especially the oceans, and the inability or unwillingness of most of the members of this forum to prioritize it (here or in their communities), or to place the planet above their relentless insecure status-seeking. It's such a beautiful, green, nourishing, good-smelling planet. Other planets do not have this teeming life and ecosystem - they are dead. We need a healthy planet and our kids need it to be mentally and physically healthy and safe. Now the oysters in Biscayne Bay are full of forever chemicals. Now all streams have microplastics. Now all Americans have forever chemicals and BPA in their bodies and in their breast milk if they are lactating.

The European Food Safety Authority determined that the safety limit for BPA should be .05 nanograms per kilogram of body weight per day (ng/kg bw/day). According to the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the average U.S. resident over the age of two consumes 200 ng/kg bw/day—more than 5,000 times the new safety limit.

If the other mommies won't like us if we prioritize the environment in our choices and say so (if asked), are they really our friends? If the other mommies like us better because we got a big Tahoe, are they true friends?

Flame away I guess. And no, taking a flight or driving a car does not invalidate concern for the environment and prioritizing it when we can. And no, the appalling lack of action by corporations and politicians because of capitalism and money in politics does not mean our choices don't matter. Our buying power is powerful especially as wealthy and upper middle class women.

1. Go away
2. Tell this story to China and India - they are the real polluters
3. Go away now
