Wanna bet??

Stock down 30%. Corporations that rely on broad consumer appeal shouldn’t pander to some ridiculous vocal minority. Their fiduciary duty is to shareholders and Disney has betrayed that fundamental mission. The CEO should be fired immediately.

Disney's stock being down 30% has absolutely nothing to do with the headwinds that streaming services in general and Disney+ in particular is facing. Nope. Nuh uh. None at all.

Go track the inflection point genius.

The inflection point happened in November 2021. Thanks for playing.

Whoops, here's the picture.

No. They didn't try to overturn a duly created law, because they don't have that power. They suspended political contributions to supporters of the law, and stated that they would work with groups and lobbyists opposed to it. That is all free speech.

Yes, this is really bedrock of how American democracy works. Without corporate lobbying, I don't think most legislators would know how to get out of bed in the morning. Disney has a really significant interest in laws like this, as the largest employer in Florida. If they cannot attract top talent to Florida (including graphic artists, performers, people who work in hospitality, etc.) because those people are afraid that they will be retaliated against due to their gender identity or sexual orientation, or because it's important to those people to live in a community where gay people are free to express who they are, then Disney's business suffers. (Plus a significant percentage of Disney's customers are gay, and they don't want them boycotting WDW either.) This is the same reason that companies are usually in favor of things like good public schools, safe streets, nice parks in their communities, particularly if the company is in a competitive field.

But, putting aside DeSantis's questionable strategic choice....I'm not sure why this is such a big deal. Can't Orange County just say, "Disney, your tax bill would be $XXXX million dollars. We would like to retain you as a contractor to provide fire, water, trash and similar services within the boundaries of your park for $XXXX million dollars. Will that work for you?" Doesn't that get them to the same place? Or is the problem the bond (which I don't really understand).

By law, Orange County cannot raise taxes on Disney (or any other taxpayer) above a certain level, which is no where near enough to cover the cost of the debt and municipal services. Also, they can’t raise taxes on just Disney, they would have to raise the tax rate for the entire tax classification, which would hit a lot of other businesses and individuals as well.

This! Disney shot at the king at missed. Now, they can pay the price. Oh, well.

It’s hilarious to see the same progressives whining about one-percenters and corporate welfare galloping to Disney’s aid without any sense of irony or shame. Any and all principles can and will be thrown out to serve the trans agenda. Progressives defending the “little guy” Disney. I’ve seen and heard it all now!

You know everyone else can see the emperor has no clothes, right? You make think the rest of us are fooled by this false bravado, but I assure you we are not.

Who here thinks the odds are greater that it gets reinstated quietly after the election, or if there will be a 1A infringement case needed to sort it out?

Unless the polling strongly favors the Democratic nominee, I think Disney will file suit before the election.

Who the hell is “us” and why do you think I care about fooling you? I hope De Santis rolls right over Disney on the way to defanging the trans lobby.

And here we have it. This isn’t about believing it’s somehow good for the problem of Florida to dissolve Reedy Creek, it’s anti-trans malice, wanting to destroy anyone who won’t join in their rank bigotry.

You’re catching on! Your ideology is a dangerous grift and America is on to you. Your best days are behind you, my dear. We’re going to push back HARD against you. Stay tuned.

Pathetic.

DO What’s pathetic is that you’re too stupid to realize how fringe your views are. Allowing 15 year olds to transition without parental participation is your twisted idea of progress but the adults on this country recognize it as sheer idiocy.

That’s not what the Florida law prevents, or didi misread it?

No, you didn’t misread it. This is just our resident anti-trans bigot on his Saturday night bender.

Disney will be filing a lawsuit against this whatever the polling says.

I think if there is a prospect of getting it rolled back after the election, Disney would rather avoid a lawsuit.

They need more than just a new Governor to do that. And the odds of a new Governor or not good and I expect the odds of flipping the legislature aren’t better.

I think DeSantis will reinstate it before it takes effect. He makes a big fuss, like he did about his big tech law, then it just falls to the wayside. This is about energizing the base.

My real concern is how he’s normalizing infringement, and how many Americans are falling all over themselves to give away their rights to own the libs. What a dangerous path.

The “trans agenda” is simply to be able to exist openly and unharassed.

I think he’s using it as chum to mask the redistributing he crammed though - and it’s working. 99% of the articles I see about him focus on Disney and maybe tack on a mention of the redistributing mP.

A percentage of the population is LGBTQ. .always has been and always will be regardless if some in Florida deny that or are frightened by that or have some other agenda.

The redistricting? I see autocorrect keeps changing it to redistributing when I type it.

Yes, that’s a real mess for the POC in his state. I hope the courts step in.
