Try to think outside the box a bit more. I didn’t vote for Trump. DeSantis is popular across the board. Go figure. |
Just wondering if this newfound love for leveling the playing field also extends to a desire to remove things like accelerated depreciation from the tax code and close loopholes around offshore profit-sharing. You know, to level the playing field and make sure that large corporations aren't advantaged, and all. |
Yep! |
Wanna bet?? |
Ahem, the people who literally just did “overturn duly created law” are in the Florida legislature. Disney, NOT BEING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE, cannot do that. |
If it’s retaliatory there’s definitely something wrong with that. |
Stock down 30%. Corporations that rely on broad consumer appeal shouldn’t pander to some ridiculous vocal minority. Their fiduciary duty is to shareholders and Disney has betrayed that fundamental mission. The CEO should be fired immediately. |
Yes, this is really bedrock of how American democracy works. Without corporate lobbying, I don't think most legislators would know how to get out of bed in the morning. Disney has a really significant interest in laws like this, as the largest employer in Florida. If they cannot attract top talent to Florida (including graphic artists, performers, people who work in hospitality, etc.) because those people are afraid that they will be retaliated against due to their gender identity or sexual orientation, or because it's important to those people to live in a community where gay people are free to express who they are, then Disney's business suffers. (Plus a significant percentage of Disney's customers are gay, and they don't want them boycotting WDW either.) This is the same reason that companies are usually in favor of things like good public schools, safe streets, nice parks in their communities, particularly if the company is in a competitive field. But, putting aside DeSantis's questionable strategic choice....I'm not sure why this is such a big deal. Can't Orange County just say, "Disney, your tax bill would be $XXXX million dollars. We would like to retain you as a contractor to provide fire, water, trash and similar services within the boundaries of your park for $XXXX million dollars. Will that work for you?" Doesn't that get them to the same place? Or is the problem the bond (which I don't really understand). |
Disney's stock being down 30% has absolutely nothing to do with the headwinds that streaming services in general and Disney+ in particular is facing. Nope. Nuh uh. None at all. |
+1 Also curious as to whether churches will be punished for free speech in the same manner that corporations are. |
Go track the inflection point genius. |
How did they “try to overturn duly created law”? Did they storm the Capitol in Tallahassee? |
This! Disney shot at the king at missed. Now, they can pay the price. Oh, well. It’s hilarious to see the same progressives whining about one-percenters and corporate welfare galloping to Disney’s aid without any sense of irony or shame. Any and all principles can and will be thrown out to serve the trans agenda. Progressives defending the “little guy” Disney. I’ve seen and heard it all now! |
The inflection point happened in November 2021. Thanks for playing. |
