On paper ECNL added the higher-ranked clubs right now. But GA’s move seems pretty clearly about the future, not just current rankings. Carolina Core, Oklahoma Celtic, and KC Legends all sit in strategic markets where there’s real room to grow, and they have the kind of leadership and infrastructure that could eventually challenge ECNL clubs locally.

So yes, ECNL added three very good clubs today. But GA’s additions look like long-term market plays with upside. Different strategies, not necessarily a win/lose situation.

this comment shows you clearly don't know anything about the clubs. the paper rankings the poster posted are pretty accurate. it's just a fact. those are very weak clubs and the 3 ECNL clubs are very strong and will get stronger now in the ECNL.

1. SC Surf is pretty remote…them joining will not make them any different… they are not attracting any new players.

2. Lonestar joining NL will further weaken Sting Austin.

Sting Austin took all of Lonestar players, now they will return.

There is more money in the boys game, that would be a foolish move from ecnl and give a helping hand to GA

I don’t know anything about the specifics of the deal but have heard it from a few different people that are in positions to know stuff like that. ECNL and its admin team would see a nice pay day as well as make the boys side one large league with relegation all by MLS.

If it does not happen then clubs will have to split into two clubs and they can keep boys and girls in separate or GTFO.

There was a few big girls ECNL clubs that tried switching boys to MLSN and ECNL was going to drop them so they decided to keep boys in ECNL.

doesn't make sense cause there are clubs that have ECNL boys but their girls side were rejected from moving to ECNL from another league or not promoted to RL or moved to GA because ECNL denied their Girls entry.

Deals were made last year for a handful of decent GA teams to leave and join RL with the promise that if they preformed “well enough” in RL they would get promoted. You will see it this year with many ECNL girls getting promoted compared to years past.

ECNL is already starting the process with the relegation and us club combination with USYS to build out their relegation system between platforms.

You will see big changes over the next 1-2 years.

The data is clear but please do your own research. D1 attendance for GA events has been on a 3 year decline. Not an indicator that the league is on the rise (talent wise).

Maybe but at the GA Champions Cup IMG this year, there is plenty of exposure to be had. Lots of D1s - Duke, Clemson, UVA, Florida State, Georgetown etc they’re all here. DD can’t say it was lack of exposure if she doesn’t get recruited.

Which clubs gave up MLSN for ECNL?

Not the poster but I’ve heard of clubs with ECNL girls and boys try to goto MLSN and ECNL shut them down. I believe it was clubs who had the option to go MLSN2 and GA or ECNL boys /RL girls. With the option to move girls up the next year.

My son’s club was offered the same deal and said no and kept GA over RL and went with MLSN2. Soon to be MLSN1.
