Ugh, really? Can't say I like him all that much.

+1

If the Duke isn’t highlighted I won’t be as interested.

Yup. I’m only watching if the Duke is featured, preferable w/o a shirt.

Yes. Maybe the plot could be focused on Anthony but then they just cut away a lot to the Duke shagging. He could even be shagging anthonry’s love interest. Or even Anthony. All okay with me.

TThe popularity of this series reminds me a lot of how obsessed women were with the Shades of Gray stuff. It's all pretty much soft core porn. I guess I shouldn't be that surprised that women like soft-corn porn with a flimsy plot line filled with unrealistic romance, but I kind of am. As a 44 year old married woman, that Jane Austen shit does NOT resonate with me.

The book was written by a woman for a female audience and the show was produced by a woman

Nevertheless, it’s banal and I stopped watching. The series will have no historical value and will disappear.

I think you mistake its purpose and ambition.

The plot is somewhat superfluous. We just want to see the Duke in all his glory. He is truly the most lust-inducing creature I have ever seen.

+1 and the Duke was much better strutting around and being the Duke then acting like a pained puppy doing fake porn “love” scenes. He’s dashing throughout most of the series then turns into a dud.

I usually don’t like period pieces or romance novels. Since so many folks on my Facebook feed were raving about it, I watched. I was not convinced by the plot, but I did enjoy it for what’s it was worth. The costumes, sets, sexual tension, mystery of who is Lady Whistledown, etc. kept me watching.

Personally, it reminded me of my college relationship. I was virgin, so in love and with energy and inclination to intimately enjoy my boyfriend - over and over. Maybe it reminds people of their first time or their own passionate relationships or their own sexual awakening.

I’m 48 and like a guy in period costume when he’s built for it. I think there is a huge untapped market for female oriented soft core porn but it has to have better looking men than traditional porn, better sets/costumes, and more of a plot or at least a different plot. I totally did not get the 50 Shades thing—you take a hot guy and just totally ruin it by having him be into gags and dominance. Don’t we all get enough of guys who want us to shut up and do what we’re told in the workplace? That just immediately ruins any fantasy for me.

This!

I can’t stop rewatching those scenes.

I can’t believe someone watched it with their teen. I was a huge girl hard-on.

Someone watched it with their teen BEFORE knowing it was full of sex scenes. Those scenes don’t kick into full gear until later episodes.

Jane Austen was much too intelligent for Bridgerton.

+ a million
I mistakenly thought Bridgerton was going to be Jane Austin-esque. Imagine my disappointment.

This show is just abysmal.

Thank you! I can't understand the bevy of posters that liked this crap! And I love, love, love Pride and Prejudice.

There are plenty of popular shows that are akin to watching paint dry. They're still crazy popular. The Office is one such example.

Something out there for everyone, you know?

Friends is another example.

It's escapism, similarly to Bridgerton. Very pretty people living seemingly perfect, beautifully styled lives. Is it all quality TV? No, but is what really what we're looking for?

Can't agree with you here...the Featheringtons' dresses look like they are on loan from Cinderella's ugly stepsisters.

There’s only one attractive person on this show.

Started last week. Perfect mindless entertainment.

PP, I’m curious who you think the only one attractive person is? The duke is hot.

I watched it with my teen. No, I didn’t know about those scenes before we watched, but they provided several very good teaching moments.

1. Don’t rely on withdrawal for birth control
2. It’s not realistic for 99% of women to be gasping for air during an orgasm that starts after just 3 seconds.
3. Don’t marry someone you’ve known for only a weekend.
4. But do find a good lover and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. Using birth control.

And peripherally to those scenes:

5. Herbs don’t induce abortion.
