Spring 2017 soccer club tryouts

^^from the post it sounds like they turned down the initial acceptance...before knowing Team. If you decide travel is too soon for your child, does it matter what color??? Fwiw, if it was an upper team it would be even more intense in the early years.

BRYC will have ODSL teams next year? I guess that makes sense because they run the ODSL teams out of the rec program. But who else will be in the league?

We went for the u10 boys. Mostly returning players and about 4-5 (that I could tell) new players. I spoke to a parent we had met before and they went to the tryouts because "BRYC was in CCL and it's more competitive". I broke the news to them that they will not be in CCL next year. They were a bit surprised and said they would look into it. Probably won't return for the 2nd tryout although I am curious if they actually plan to talk to the parents after day 2. Is it not common to address the parents after a tryout?

It's always been that way so they can move kids up or take new kids on upper teams as the season goes on. Strategically they always place some players playing an age up on the red/white teams to prepare for the following year. It happens every year--and my kids have been with ASA for over 6 years now. Also, not everyone accepts--even some red and white team offers will not be accepted--so there will be some movement up the chain in the coming week--as well as some call backs to players not initially accepted.

No surprises at all. Pretty typical.

Not following what you mean (Low red team #s on B's and G's, new tryout #s on both??) Are you referring to number assigned at registration?

The low #s just mean they registered for the tryout early. Numbers are randomly given out in order of sign up. I don't see any younger 2010 on red--those would be the 500s/700s--though there isn't much age difference between a kid born the end of 2009 and one born the beginning of 2010. I would expect a few movements upwards as some kids decline and they need to adjust the numbers. These aren't final until payment.

Thank god our club doesn't post any tryout results on their website.

Be committed to the team and sport if they make it. Too many kids think that just because they are on the team all is good. It isn't. Coaches need the kids to be committed as do the other players.

Is your kid club soccer ready? Ask them this, if Johnie or Suzy have a birthday party and you have a game scheduled, which would you pick?

I think you understand where I am going with this.

Year after year players get on teams saying they are committed but soon start to fade.

YES. We have kids whose parents were so gung-ho at the beginning and now can barely be bothered to bring their kid five minutes before a game starts. And they don't apologize; they act like they don't know or don't give a crap how it affects the team.

At what age does interest start to fade? My kid is all gungho about it now but I could see how as they get older interests change.

Herein lies the reason why teams start to fade once you get to U12. Look at the leagues, tournaments and you will see that the available teams drop significantly. Some might say it has do with teams needing at least 14 players to field a 11v11 team and make take as many as 18. Even with that response a current U10 team has maybe 10-12 players. You would have enough to field two teams if all of those kids on the A,B,C team came back every year. Fact of the matter is kids get bored, boys get interested in basketball, football, get tired of seeing the same kids over and over again, coaches start to phone it in. As a parent, I think I am also going to be less excited to see my son practice and play when he's 12-13-14 and more interested in teaching him working on cars, driving, focusing on school, etc.

Makes sense. As school work starts to get harder I can see it putting a strain on grades etc especially when moving into middle school. Enjoy it while you can.

For those who have been with the same club for several years, do most of the current players receive offers to return to their team? DS is U9 and has his U10 Tryout tomorrow. He loves his current team and would be really devastated to be cut.
