Western High School Boundary Map options (A/B/C/D)

Anonymous
Yeah I don't know why people keep bringing up the original options as if they were whole lot better.

The original options didn't show the middle school and elementary school changes and that doesn't mean that MS/ES boundaries won't be changed. On the high school level, Scenario 2 is basically Option B and Scenario 1 is somewhat similar to Option A.

Even the original options clearly show Chantilly and Centreville will send students to backfill Westfield which is going to lose around 1,000 kids.

+1 There was a poll at the end. At the second meeting, the poll results were not even close. I'm not sure about the first meeting though.

The poll tool wasn't working at the first meeting. But sentiment in the room was primarily for Scenario 2, with a couple folks pointing out things they didn't like about that scenario.

+1 thank you for backing me up. So the PP who said that was not true when I posted that earlier is completely wrong and a liar. There weren’t even at the meeting.

I think "sentiment in the room" is pretty easy to misinterpret based on your own personal feelings.

Philosophically, should the opinions of the people who show up for the meeting matter more than the opinions of the people who don't/can't attend?

Should every single SB or FCPS decision be put to a vote?

They offered two meetings both via zoom and in person. Having said that, the SB and FCPS failed everyone with their last minute shift and announcement which shocked every neighborhood that wasn’t in the original maps released a year ago. I don’t know why individual surveys and polls weren’t sent to each family in FCPS addressing each scenario. It’s simple and effective, but the SB and FCPS are incompetent and likely already have their minds made up. It’s all for show.

Yeah, it's frustrating. The official feedback channel is supposed to be comments on the boundary map. I submitted comments there and encouraged people I know to do the same. I even went to the first meeting and spoke up at my table there. But now we're hearing that people making noise directly at SB, outside of the channels they're directing people to, are getting special treatment. Guys, I don't want to have to bother with all that. I just want to submit my feedback. Please.

But I want even less for my family to have to double the length our commute to high school for 7 years, so....I guess I need to participate now. It's so annoying.

I do not disagree.

To get a little more specific, I think they had 8 breakout speak up. IIRC 6 of those favored scenario 2. Some of those pointed out flaws in it. I think one group favored scenario 1, and one group had two people speak, one favoring 1 and one favoring 2.

During the 2008 boundary study, groups were having coffees and inviting SB members. Serious competition. Remember Navy mom who attacked Kathy Smith? That neighborhood and others were that involved.

PP. I made this post, not the preceding comments.

So what I said stands. The majority wanted scenario 2.

This should not be based on a vote. It should be based on facts, what makes the most sense, and what is logical.

Right, because "vibe in the room" is easily swayed when 100 angry RIO parents storm a meeting.

They made it clear it wasn’t a vote. It’s just feedback. The feedback was that scenario 2 was the most favored. My guess is the next set of maps will have scenario 2 as well. They are going to get rid of one scenario entirely. My guess is #1. And they are also not going to put LCES at Westfield.

Where’s the pp who claimed it was an absolute lie that Scenario 2 was preferred at both meetings?! Cat got her tongue?!

Not sure who called you a liar, but I’ve seen some salty Crossfield moms who want to send their kids to Skyview. They are very against Scenario 2
