I know this is a long shot, but I figured I'd ask. Does anyone have an advice or best practices on getting in to first class with points? My husband is traveling for business and my infant child and I would like to join him. He gets to travel first class for work. I will be paying for my trip with points. Our child will be a "lap child" and not getting their own seat. It would probably make our lives easier if we could sit together, especially in 1st since it is a long flight. I don't have enough points to do it. Has anyone ever had United be nice? Any things to try to say? If not, I'll just have my husband stay in 1st and we will switch on and off with the baby.
Thanks! |
| OMG if you brought an infant into first class, everyone there will hate you. |
|
hah no. Lots of experience on united. You get bumped by points, not for being nice.
And not to be snarky, but many people pay more to be in first class away from infants and children. |
Since your husband is paying for first class, give the infant to him and you fly coach. He has the room. Enjoy the peace!

i totally feel for your situation but agree with this. obviously it shouldn't stop you from trying but the worst flight of my life was 14 hour long haul OVERNIGHT to australia in business class with a child screaming and crying the entire way. |

OP here. Thanks for the responses already. Much appreciated. I have always cringed with children on flights myself and still do, but if there isn't a no child rule, I'll totally be THAT PERSON if it makes my kid more comfortable to have more space in a pod than in coach. Their comfort is my #1 concern. I'm not overly concerned about their behavior since all of their other flights they have been quiet and they are pretty calm and laid back. They are wiggly now and are large. I'd always take them for a walk if they got loud.
If we can't get me in first, I probably will just let my husband be on baby duty! |
| There are no freebies anymore. |
Who is they?? Please don't tell me that this is twins? I think you should spring for economy plus. I pay for that (mostly to escape children) but I have occasionally seen well behaved babies there. |
| How many children are you traveling with? Why do you keep saying "they" and "them?" |
I always fly first class and have two babies. They're allowed to travel too. |
Then buy them a seat. |

| Here is what you do. I am assuming this is international and there is 1st, biz, and economy. Your DH buys the first class ticket on his personal card and then cancels it for a full refund. Using your credit card you buy two business seats. Then he gets reimbursed for the first class ticket. |
That's fraud - putting in for a reimbursement for a ticket you got a refund for. |
