| Do the GOP establishment darlings (Bush and Rubio) have the cojones to take on Carson and his unhinged views or are their big-dollar donors too focused on polling and the best odds of trying to take on HRC twelve months from now? Remember the outcry about Obama being not adequately vetted? Where are those who made this complaint this time around? This is a very insular man. |
|
I am very surprised that none of the Republican candidates are going after him hard on using fetal tissue for research. An attack like this would damage him with the right wing conservative evangelicals who are boosting his candidacy.
Ted Cruz's SuperPAC ought to be hitting him on this in Iowa. Cruz would benefit when those voters start looking for an alternative. |

When? Just like the critical examination of Obama.
Oh, wait...... |
Yep, when we learned he was a secret Muslim ... born in Kenya and issued a fraudulent birth certificate in Hawaii coinciding with publishing a birth announcement ... he was educated in an Indonesian madrassa ... he became editor of the Harvard Law Review because of affirmative action ... Stupid never sleeps. |

Trump is already going after Carson and the others are probably happy to let him do their dirty work. Moreover, it is a little early to get worried about who is the flavor of the week. Cruz and Jeb! are probably more concerned with Rubio at the moment.
|
| I agree that Rubio is the one to watch, but there's something to be said that people are responding so well to Carson. Seems like they are tired of smarmy politicians . |
| The other candidates won't take him down. Eventually we will get past the antics and the hard policy questions will come up in the debates and interviews. That's where Perry stumbled, where Herm Cain stumbled. Carson has not shown much ability to articulate policy. We might as well get ready for the inevitable question: "if not Trump and not Carson, then who?" |
Rubio has now completely reversed himself on immigration; his pandering to the hard right is complete. He will end protection for DREAMers even without CIR: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/marco-rubio-deferred-action-for-childhood-arrivals_563a592be4b0411d306f42cd The only possible hope for the GOP to capture much of the Latino vote is Jeb! |
Exactly correct, Mr. Steele. Rubio is the real threat to all three of Trump, Jeb! and Cruz, but Trump had to wait to attack Rubio until Jeb! had collapsed to the point where it will be hard for him to come back. Killing Rubio early would prompt the GOP elites to really circle the wagons around Jeb!, and had they done so they had the money and the favorable election rules that they probably could have gotten Jeb! over the finish line, much like Clinton will be for the Dems---many on that side seem to detest her, but no one can beat her. The potential viability of both Jeb and Rubio created a space that could be exploited by non-establishment candidates. Dr. Carson is not viable, due to his nutty religion and shady business dealings among other things, so no need to waste too much firepower on him yet, and tactically Carson soaks up a lot of the space that could otherwise be filled by someone more plausible running on the evangelical flank. I note, those of you who think Trump is a dummy, he has played this campaign incredibly shrewdly, to the point where it is possible to imagine him winning, which I would not have expected even six months ago. The most interesting questions at present are whether Rubio has sufficient baggage that he can be stopped---I could see that going either way---and whether Trump stays in the race long enough to keep the establishment faction from resurrecting Jeb! ala McCain in 2008. My personal prediction is (sadly, I assure you) leaning toward the view that Rubio survives and is the nominee, whereupon he is thoroughly dismantled by the Clinton machine, which presumably has learned something from its mistakes against President Obama. Trump has more legs than I expected, and I actually think he is the most likely GOP candidate to beat Hillary!, but I just can't bring myself to accept his nomination as a likely outcome. And don't rule out Cruz -- he is very, very smart, and while the terrain remains unfavorable for a Cruz win, he's keeping himself in play and could sneak in at the last minute if something strange happens. |
I have reluctantly come to this same conclusion. |
I wish people weren't so tired of smarmy politicians that they are following a genuinely crazy person. |
You should know by now, Mr. Steele, that I am always right. But take heart, as I think a Hillary! win remains the most likely outcome. |
LOL |
I don't think it would be in Trump's long-term interest to engage in a mutually-destructive pissing match with Carson. He would be better served by putting the coup de grace to Jeb! or Rubio and neutralizing their well-funded PACs. Cruz and Carson are natural rivals as both are battling for the evangelical base key to carrying Iowa with Huckabee relegated to a non-factor. Cruz also needs to start building momentum and take the wind from Rubio's sails. The sooner the better as some big money donors are starting to line up behind Rubio. Cruz also has to be concerned about Carson taking in donations to the tune of $10 million a month, particularly if he finishes third behind Carson and Trump in Iowa. There won't be enough to sustain him much beyond NH or SC. |

The are going to let Carson hang himself with own mumble-spoken rope. No need for anyone to go hard after him. He's this cycle's Herman Cain.
Trump was smart for attacking the Establishment candidates first. Neutralize their money advantage early and often. |
