I don't think it would be in Trump's long-term interest to engage in a mutually-destructive pissing match with Carson.  He would be better served by putting the coup de grace to Jeb! or Rubio and neutralizing their well-funded PACs.  Cruz and Carson are natural rivals as both are battling for the evangelical base key to carrying Iowa with Huckabee relegated to a non-factor.  Cruz also needs to start building momentum and take the wind from Rubio's sails.  The sooner the better as some big money donors are starting to line up behind Rubio.  Cruz also has to be concerned about Carson taking in donations to the tune of $10 million a month, particularly if he finishes third behind Carson and Trump in Iowa.  There won't be enough to sustain him much beyond NH or SC.
