Good Karma, my friend. Years of shit and in this past year I saw my kid's long hated coach lose his license, another d*ck head get fired, a few caught in embezzlement...and now the DA disbanded. Karma is wonderful. |
Here's the thing. All of you who are happy, I get it -- there is a lot of bad blood in the DMV soccer area. Coaches, clubs, parents. You know who doesn't have bad blood for the most part, though? The players. My DA player still knows and is friends with all the girls who chose ECNL. She will be fine going to play with them. And note that you get what you wish for -- not ALL, but many DA players are going to displace the bench at the ECNL clubs. So the landscape changes for EVERYONE, not just the DA players. And stop shitting on the kids -- karma may be wonderful, but you have no right to dance around when a HS sophomore or junior just had their world blown up - and they did NOTHING to you. Maybe their club is filled with assholes, maybe you don't think their team is as good as your team at a given age, etc. But this is about kids playing a game. |
Agree. Arlington's boys make Arlington an attractive "all in" add for ECNL because they would bring a lot to the table on the Boys side -- they are clearly better than the 3 current NOVA boys ECNL clubs. From Arlington's perspective, their boys might be better served staying with EDP, but as a club, they certainly will want to get their girls into ECNL. |
No VA clubs getting Girls ECNL |
| I don’t believe that. Arlington and FCV will be accepted. Would be nice if the an announcement include information on what happens to the clubs. |
Your belief is based on hope. That's a failed policy. |
We'll see. If ECNL doesn't use this opportunity to beef up their boys' side, they're leaving themselves open on the boys side. Boys ECNL isn't especially strong in NOVA in the younger age groups - 05 and younger - and didn't fair particularly well when they matched up with strong EDP and CCL teams this past year. |
| If your kid now plays High School soccer, the competition just got much harder as these DA kids start showing up for tryouts. |
Sit down with DD and start shopping around on the ECNL clubs websites. See who the coaches are, ask around and see what clubs you think your DD would have a chance to make when tryout dates are released. |
This just shows how little the kids mean to US Soccer. US Soccer did not care how kids were affected by the age group change and they clearly do not care about the kids now. Cancelling DA now may be convenient for them, but it is horrendous for the players. Given the current circumstances, players are not able to try out for new teams. Clubs will not be able to hold tryouts - but they will want to get revenue - l can see current clubs offering all of their current players while asking for some sort of financial commitment from families. It would make it tough for an incoming player to take the spot of an incumbent. Of course some clubs will have no objection to over filling rosters. It really screws over the 03 players needing a new team as they are going from a U17 team to a U19 team (where rosters are already full having 1/2 the 02s and all of the 03s). 02 get the shaft as well, but they (and some 03s) have been able to talk to colleges this year. |
| Heeheeeheee. You know nothing about HS coaches. We’ve seen rec players make the public HS team over high caliber players. Often the coach knows nothing about soccer. Private schools have always been competitive (many offer scholarship) and many DA players play private HS with waivers, particularly the Catholic league. |

Surf DA posted this on their website and the end of DA hasn't even been officially announced. You still don't think the head of clubs know? If your DOC hasn't made mention of ECNL its because they haven't been offered a bid

What you describe is a worst case scenario. But I would hold faith, sit down with your kid, research the teams, their records, who the coach is, etc. and plan for what teams you realistically can try out for and make if and when things start opening up. Have a plan A. B. C. |
