Where’s Melania?

Right! If you pay them, it isn't rape.

I know, right? I think there are more posts telling us we have no lives and she needs privacy than there are posts speculating about her.

At the very least, the clumsy silence from the White House appears to be another sign of an administration where no one is in charge, everything is in chaos, and Trump totally does not care.

Start with not having people lie on your behalf.

DP. If I had health issues or was having surgery that I wanted to keep private, I would most definitely have "people lie on my behalf." For instance, my husband. I'd have him give a plausible story as to why I was out of commission because I wouldn't want anyone prying. Health issues, for normal people, are private issues. You are not entitled to know, even though you clearly feel you are.

Exactly.

But we already know she had surgery. That was announced. They could simply say that she is still recovering. I would think nothing of that. Most people wouldn’t. But that’s not what they are saying. Her fake tweet says she’s “working hard” in the WH and Trump claims she’s up and about peering through windows at him (apparently wearing her invisibility cloak). Her location was changed to NY in the middle of all this. So, it’s not so much the fact that she hasn’t been seen. It’s more about the admins suspicious behavior.

So if you are ever sick and want dh to cover for you, try not to set him up to look guilty. Or maybe you could just be honest and have him tell people you aren’t feeling well.

Most adults know when someone is recovering from surgery, they lay low.

It’s not a mystery.

Have you had kidney surgery? Any surgery? Any complications? Please share.

Nobody is saying she should share the details of her surgery. Just saying that they could have simply said that she is still recovering. Nobody would have questioned that.

She is still recovering. She may have further health problems. If it was your neighbor or sister you’d assume that; I would.

If you all want to make up elaborate fantasies about it, ok. But that doesn’t mean any of them are true.

If my neighbor told me she had minor outpatient surgery, but then spent three days in the hospital and did not leave her house for 3 weeks, I'd assume she had lied to me about the surgery and was in fact very ill. I would offer my help. If it were my sister, I would demand she tell me the truth and demand she accept my help as well.

Not sure if you're aware, but Melania Trump is neither your neighbor nor your sister. She owes you no explanation whatsoever. (And btw, your neighbor wouldn't either. I'd hate to live near someone as nosy as you.)

See the bolded. PP brought up neighbors and sisters. I responded to that. What I do with my neighbors and relatives is none of your business either, but fortunately I get along very well with them. That's all you need to know. The rest is your assumptions, and isn't too much assuming exactly what you are complaining about here.

We seem to have a breakthrough here: PP is finally getting why it's incredibly presumptuous to assume things about people you don't know! Well done, PP!

Good. Then next time a conservative assumes anything about liberals, I'll expect you to vigorously attack any such assumptions.

The more outlandish and bizarre your stories get, the more pushback you're going to receive. Seems kind of obvious...

Sure thing. Just the same way I'm sure you aggressively defend conservatives when liberals spread their usual assumptions and stereotypes about us. Right?

I actually have. Never saw a conservative do anything but make assumptions about liberals.

My theory is merely that the President doesn't care enough about his wife to handle this. His staff doesn't care enough, or aren't allowed. That in and of itself is significant. And undeniable.

Let me guess: you're one of the oversharers on FB, right? The person who posts about anything and everything that's ailing you? Because you think everyone's interested? Yeah - they're not. Melania Trump is a very private person, something I admire about her. I hope she keeps her personal business private, not only because she's entitled to, but because it bothers you so very much.

Private people don't have semi-nude photos of themselves taken and splashed all over the internet for money.

I'll remember that next time we get a Kenyan president.

If it is some awful health complication and/or condition, they could have said her surgery hit a couple unexpected snags or something and that she will need extra recooperation time. That would hav shut people up and even gotten her pity and well wishes.

They just suck at this.

You are not a very good guesser, and have proven that your instincts aren't trustworthy. So listen to me when I tell you that the public is entitled to know the whereabouts of Melania and how she's spendjng our tax money, and if you feel the urge to disagree, just remember how bad your intuition is, and supress it.

Yes, your theory is certainly "undeniable"! Since you said so, and everything.

You do realize those photos were taken decades ago, right? And that perhaps she's changed? And maybe she's extremely private now because she learned the hard way what people will think of you when you have semi-nude photos taken? Even people who claim to be "sex positive" and "champions of women"?

We'll just have to agree to disagree, apparently. But speaking of intuition - you insisting that something nefarious is at play here should be a big red flag that it's *your* intuition which is faulty. Not to mention, extremely odd.

Also, I didn't realize that quietly recuperating from surgery, or simply resting at home was somehow "spending our tax money." Who knew?!
