Government Shutdown - September, 2025 Editiion

So they want to shut down and lay off folks at the USDA, where all the farm subsidies are levied? and they want to lay of the folks at the VA where are veterans receive care? And they want to lay off the food and meat inspectors? and the people who answer tax questions at the IRS, or who process our returns? Or the social security administrators?

At some point, fine, lay them all off, they are all democrats and none of them help the american public at all /s

100©. Trump wants a shut down so he can blame Democrats for inflation.

Good let him fire all these people. We are already in a recession let’s not stop digging!

The midterms are over a year away. Votes will not remember this. Shut it down, fire everyone. It does not matter. Dems should insist on speeding up all cuts. Let the pain it before the midterms.

They fired everyone they could fire. Why are the Dems so chicken shit?

Republicans control the house, the senate, the presidency, and the judiciary.
Pretending a republican shut down is the democrats' fault is like blaming your towels for flood damage.

That's not true. I am still waiting to get fired (and expect to be part of DOI's upcoming RIF if we don't shut down).

Still not worth giving up and admitting the minority party need never, ever be part of negotiations again. That's what's at stake. There won't be another chance to negotiate ACA subsidies separate from the CR. That's such an obvious lie.

Illegal to fire someone based on political affiliation.

This goes to show two things: 1) MAGA are idiots, and 2) NYT is MAGA.

From the linked article:

“Voters said they would be likeliest to blame both sides if the government shuts down. But independent voters said they were twice as likely to assign blame to Mr. Trump and Republicans than to Democrats”

Predictions on whether there will be a shit down… yes or no?

A lot of things used to be illegal. It turns out that if none of the three branches care then it doesn't matter.

Dems need to realize the longer term fight that America is in right now.

Some of them do. Dems, and Reps, need to fight for everything. If they don't win now, there is always a later. But ignoring "small" illegalities, that does no one good.

We all know there will be full compensation at the end so shouldn’t MAGA hate this? It hurts contractors, mostly republican, more than Feds. What am I missing?

If it lasts 60 days there won't be any compensation and most of the government will cease to exist.

Odd that it's Fa, not Antifa, bringing us anarchy.

It's autocracy not anarchy.

The military and the new domestic brownshirt army are still funded.

What this means is that over 92% of federal employees will be fired if the shutdown lasts longer than 60 days.

Tell me, what would you think if a new CEO took over your own company and a few months in fired 92% of everyone there, with minimal regard to what the function of the fired people actually was? How do you think that company would survive? It wouldn't. You'd lose most of your technical expertise, organizational and institutional knowledge and history, relationships with customers and other organizations, everything would collapse and the company would implode. Anyone who thinks it would be a "good thing" is completely clueless about how things work.

Who are you people??? This is not going to happen???

If it's not going to happen then why are OMB, OPM, and agencies all preparing for it? Again, if the government shuts down that clock will start ticking, and 60 days later 92+ percent of the federal workforce will be gone, unless something changes.

Who are you people who are absolutely certain it won't happen? You're going to have to be a White House or Senate Staffer with inside knowledge to be making a declaration like that with any certainty.

You know the longest shutdown so far is 35 days?

Do you have a point?

This is Trump v2, in bigger, longer, and uncut.

Maybe Americans need to come together for a general strike.

We can even get Americans en masse to agree to hold the party in charge of both houses of Congress and the White House responsible for keeping their government open.

To be clear, I think a general strike would be a great tactic. I just don't see it happening in this brain dead, do-nothing, me me me environment.

Sigh....agree. People better wake up and quick.
