Got divorced in April.

Wonder if his wife knew.

She showed up to the school yelling at him in the parking lot one day in March, so, yeah, probably.

Tell us more.

This is so untrue and unfair. Leave her out of it. I know her personally and she deserves to be kept out of all of this.

Does he have a drinking problem? It sounds like yes.

Definitely financial management problems per his record in case search.

Cases are: back taxes owed to the state of MD, foreclosure in 2010 which it looks like they managed to block using the relief provided by the Servicemembers' Civil Relief Act, a DUI in May 2013, and their recent divorce.

Who cares about all of this. This man isn’t a celebrity to divulge his personal matters. Grown up people!

It's public interest when he's in the Washington Post for this behavior.

Assuming you work for MCPS, maybe get back to making some kind of statement about this situation.

NP. Exactly. The silence from McKnight is not a good look. I don't know who is on her PR team but the fact that the leader of the $3B+ organization who makes almost as much as the U.S. President has not uttered a word about the atrocious news reported by one of the top national newspapers is shameful.

As an MCPS teacher, will I still be employed and promoted after a DUI? I didn’t think so. Why would the rules be different for principals?

Having DUI is not against mcps policy and yes you would still get promoted as a teacher with a DUI. Everyone is human.

At a minimum, McKnight needs to go.

Exactly. Moreover, what does it take to warrant a Federal investigation into the massive coverups?

EXACTLY. Who’s job is it?

Always check misspellings in case search. Two months of lack of payment of rent last year as well with the i and e reversed in his name. Principals oversee large amounts in school accounts. I wonder if financial background checks are a thing for those roles?

A community leader who is a) responsible for safety and security of children and staff, and b) responsible for managing money in school accounts should have their past behavior be above reproach—a DUI and owing back taxes and foreclosure shouldn’t necessarily automatically disqualify someone but should be part of consideration and be explained. There are lots of jobs with licenses and certifications where those things would disqualify you or at least lead to further investigation. Why not this one?

Accountability is not a modern-day lynching. Get a grip.

Yeah, no. Modern day lynching? I can't....Teachers are allowed to drink. They are human. They shouldnt have to be subjected to a drunken buffoon who doesnt act like a decent human being after having drinks. He needs to grow up.

It's not a "modern day lynching" if there is that much proof he sexually harassed his staff and nothing was done about it.

Anonymous wrote:I completely agree with the PPs that call for higher pay for BOE members. It's a $3 billion budget.l, and that's just the operating side. The fact that school board members get paid so little across the country is frankly shameful and reflects how lite we care about children. No wonder MCPS lacks accountability. There is nobody with sufficient resources and power to put a check on the superintendent.

They literally are the power.

School board members get paid $25,000 a year, except for the school board president, who gets paid $29,000 a year.

No wonder we have such a poor board who can't do anything.

Yup. We need a full-time board, with quality candidates that have the knowledge and backbone to seriously hold MCPS accountable.

Is there a model for this anywhere else in the US? Or are all boards part-time and impotent like MCPS's?

I don't know about all situations, but a school system with 3B plus budget needs full time otherwise we are always going to attract incompetent part timers.

Easy. I'm sure they can find 8 useless and high paid roles in Central Office that should be eliminated. Move that budget to fund the salaries for full time BOE members who are actually competent.

Wouldn't paying board members from mcps budget thus make them MCPS employees, henceforth eliminating the oversight you all are calling for...???

Everyone is human—but all humans are accountable for our actions.

This man has a track record going back more than 10 years of bad behavior linked to alcohol and only the most recent stuff showed up in WaPo…so far. So, the stuff farther back is of course of interest.

Yes you would! You would be less likely to have your DUI come to light. You speak as if all teachers records are clean and the majority of admin were teachers.

They would have to create a new department at the Central Office with a dozen or more employees to contract with consultants to do this.
