I'm one of those Democrats who is happy to see this ruling. I'd rather see affirmative action on the basis of socioeconomic status rather than race. It would probably get you to the same conclusion rather than giving preferential treatment to UMC and UC POCs.

It doesn't get you there. California has already proven that. As a black woman, I am devasted. How do you eliminate affirmative action when merit is not real. You have many black and latino students graduated from substandard schools and white kids going to high school with golf courses. SAT scores are based on income, not intelligence.

We haven't even come to terms with race in this country.

And you apparently haven't come to terms with class. There are a TON of poor and lower income whites in this country. You really need to get out more.

Umm, are they poor because they are white??

Areas like Appalachia have White cycles of poverty. There are plenty of Black people who have taken advantage of the opportunities out there that are trying to right the wrongs over the years. Let’s be honest though. Not enough Black Americans are putting education as their children’s priorities. It’s not all about terrible schools. It’s about getting involved in your child’s education, finding activities so they aren’t hanging around. These are the kids who do well, there just aren’t enough of them.

It’s similar to Black poverty areas. There are a lot of people from poor areas who succeed but the first thing they do is get the hell out of the poor areas, so the poor areas don’t get better.

White people are still going to make sure that their people get a spot before an East and South Asian. It's so sad that they really think that they can get a leg up by shitting on women and other ethnic minorities.

They bring their sh!tty culture where they cheat and topple over each other to get the best grades for their class and then come to America cause the rules are more lax but STILL complain about the policies so they can get ahead. And yet black people are always playing the victim?

When Edward Blum put together the lawsuit this time around (he has been at this for over 20 years), Yale and Princeton were able to shut him down immediately. I remember President Salovey easily proving that black people do not get special treatment. The small percentage of Yale students that are black includes Africans, Caribbeans, and African Americans all lumped together, and it's still a very percentage and they had to have the same test scores as everyone else. And nearly one in three Princeton undergraduates are already Asian. These Asian students were not being discriminated against.

Part of me is a little sad that Harvard reps didn't follow President Salovey's lead and prove Edward Blum wrong. I don't think they would've let this happen if it would've affected their precious legacy students or precious white male athletes.

But of course, Edward Blum doesn't care about the unfairness of legacy students getting in no matter what.

Reading this thread has been extremely enlightening.

It is clear racism isn't dead. It is alive and well on DCUM!

You cheapen the word “racism” when you casually throw it around and misuse it.

My guess is you may be the real racist.

And, this is why I predict that all the outrage over this decision will turn out like the outrage over the GA voting law.....

It will make those doomsday predictors look like idiots. I also think minority enrollment will be significantly higher in only 5 years in these schools.

She’s a terrible writer

Both her, sotamayor and acb shouldn’t be 100 miles near scotus

Kagan is the only female justice currently on the bench that is there on merit

She is leaps and bounds better than you.

If they were really about accepting students into universities based solely on merit, then they would be for a blind application where no name, gender, race, ethnicity, and address are known. But they won’t because they know that process would heavily favor Asian applicants.

Again, there are kids who are 4.0/1600 who are not better candidates than others who have high board scores, high GPA's and other attributes that contribute to the community. And a university with all straight asian males would get really old, really quickly.

When they didn’t have free time, play time, unstructured time?

When they were not given any space to develop their own interests and passions, but were told by their parents that it was decided for them they must become a doctor/engineer/lawyer?

This is a recipe for a very plain personality.

Hahahahaha.

Omg. My kids do some worksheets and some homework and sports and have play dates and sleep and watch tv and spend time with friends and family.

Top of their classes. Excellent time management skills.

If you think they’re just doing worksheets all day long: you don’t know any Asians.

I know Asians. They isolate themselves from White kids and they are in math school after a full day of school and Mandarin class on weekends. Did you really think they are at the top of the class because Asians are naturally superior? You made their days look like any other student but it’s not true. The culture is different.

But you’re not an Asian.

I am. And you don’t know the culture.

Because you’re a racist.
