A truly absurd loophole.

Latinos make up a very small percentage of applicants. I also find your comments very bigoted. Who died and made you judge of Latino identity?

It’s amazing, given all this history on this forum of deleting anything that even touches sensitive issues like this, this thread is allowed to stay up, lol. But it’s a Supreme Court ruling, so it gets some air time.

Oh, but definitely don’t try to argue for strict criminal justice and against progressive criminal justice reforms, which seems like basically amounts to leniency) or the thread gets deleted.

Also, don’t dare talk about progressive education reform. Shoot, I bet this post gets deleted because I am talking about what things that get deleted and king mod around here runs the fiefdom with an iron fist.

That’s a fairly narrow set of people; ruling impact well beyond this

Well, that’s the aspect of it I always had the most problem with.

I'm one of those Democrats who is happy to see this ruling. I'd rather see affirmative action on the basis of socioeconomic status rather than race. It would probably get you to the same conclusion rather than giving preferential treatment to UMC and UC POCs.

It doesn't get you there. California has already proven that. As a black woman, I am devasted. How do you eliminate affirmative action when merit is not real. You have many black and latino students graduated from substandard schools and white kids going to high school with golf courses. SAT scores are based on income, not intelligence.

We haven't even come to terms with race in this country.

NP and I’m curious why you don’t think affirmative action based of SES would help underrepresented groups get into selective colleges?

Agree. We are so segregated as a society. It isn’t a level playing field. The claim of a meritocracy is false.

And you apparently haven't come to terms with class. There are a TON of poor and lower income whites in this country. You really need to get out more.

It’s because you’re ignorant of history. Sad.

I do think this a blow to diversity on college campuses, but I also think schools will get creative with how they keep said diversity. Pay attention to student zip codes who apply, the racial make up of the HS they attend, read the essays for clues as to the students race/ethnicity, etc.

So gender and national origin can still be considered? Women born in Africa get to be considered for that reason?

I hope so. I feel like our society is back-sliding and reinforcing systemic racism, all because Asian kids don’t get their school of choice that they feel deeply entitled to. It’s disturbing

I worry about this ruling as racism is alive and well. But I never understood why Hispanics were included in the affirmative action clause.
I think if it was just for AA, people would have less of an issue with it. I’m Asian btw

That still using race.

Lawsuits will fly.
