College coaches have to inform Sunshine Showcase of their attendance - that’s how they check in and get their free pass for the games and other perks. It would benefit Sunshine Showcase to list all of the college coaches attending because then it makes them look good to show who’s going to be there. It’s also for the prospective recruits because then they can email those coaches listed. If a coach isn’t listed, then sending them your game schedule would be a waste of your time and their time. Duh.

Sunshine Showcase is better for the clubs and their rankings. That's why the clubs go.

WE is more for recruiting individual players (whether they go with their club or as an individual).

Both are competitive but in different ways, imo. And in our experience, WE provides the better recruiting opportunities. And College Connection provides the better recruiting events overall. My 2 cents. And it doesn't really matter if someone's experience is different as it doesn't change that of ours or what we see in our club's teammates.

Having done these tournaments for years, MANY coaches will come that are not listed on the tournament web site. You always send emails to schools you are interested in even if not on the list!

Same. The D1 program my DD plays for now and several others contacted her before and right after Disney and were never listed on the website. Those of you who don't do USA Field Hockey programs may not be familiar with how unbelievably disorganized they are. Have you been to Nexus? ALmost all D1 programs send someone to Disney.

Sunshine Showcase doesn't have to promote to clubs or individual players by letting them know about all the coaches attending. It is the second most important tournament of the year to club teams, all the top teams go--because it's really fun, too. Most every big D1 program will have a coach in attendance. If your DD is being recruited by any of them, they will follow up with their coach afterward.

There isn’t college field hockey in Florida - so local coaches popping by to recruit is not possible.

Oh my gosh, no. I have met her coach one time, when my DD first started, at a parent meeting. My daughter just mentioned to me last night that her coach is headed down to Disney--we were talking about how we miss it, but also, don't. They are in off-season, but still practice and condition, so she sees her coaches regularly.

I’m confused. Why would my DD email a coach that is potentially not going to the Sunshine Showcase? Wouldn’t that be a waste of time to contact them if they are not going to be there? Will they be annoyed at my DD for emailing them assuming they will be there when there’s a very good chance they will not be there? Why wouldn’t Sunshine Showcase list all of the college coaches that would be in attendance? It seems like it would be a simple thing to update the list as the coaches commit.

Just checked the Disney showcase website. More D1 coaches added compared to when I looked a few days ago. It looks like the list is being updated.

It's USA Field Hockey. Trust me, that list is not and will never be complete. If your player has coaches/programs she's interested in and she has introduced herself earlier, it's fine to send a very quick message that says, in case you're at Disney this weekend, here's my schedule. If they're not going, no big deal, they'll ignore. There's nothing to lose here. I do not know why people want to insist on this argument about tournaments.

You mean like you are? I agree, fwiw, to still email. And I agree on the disorganization. But, having been to many USAFH and College Connection events, in our experience, the CC events are much better attended.

Just checked the Disney showcase website. More D1 coaches added compared to when I looked a few days ago. It looks like the list is being updated.

Flying down to Orlando tonight. I’ll let y’all know what the coach turnout really is down there. Safe travels to all the DMV players and best of luck to the DMV teams > represent!

How do you plan to indentify all the coaches? Start by watching the top clubs in their pool play and see how many are on the sidelines?
