I though I read in this thread how way more coaches go to the Sunshine Showcase than Winter Escape! Not according to Sunshine Showcase’s own information. The disinformation previously provided about this is disappointing.

First of all, nobody said there were more coaches. They said it was a more competitive tournament and that it is a more serious recruiting event. Again, coach attendance is high at Winter Escape because it is timed to the annual NFHCA meeting. Sunshine Showcase is second only to NCCs in determining the strongest clubs in the country. Secondly, many, many coaches don't put their names on the website list. My DD's head coach from her D1 program is heading down there today, will be there all weekend, and neither her name nor her university is listed. I'm sorry that your player's club chose Winter Escape instead of Disney. There are reasons that coaches do this, and hopefully it was a fun trip, but it just isn't as competitive an experience. I might add, Disney is really fun, too. We went for many years and during DD's senior year, we went for extra days, and did the parks. So fun--I miss it.

^This is adorable. It must be nice that you are such good friends with your “DD’s head coach from her D1 program” that she would tell you she’s going to Sunshine Showcase and not the actual tournament coordinators!

Having done these tournaments for years, MANY coaches will come that are not listed on the tournament web site. You always send emails to schools you are interested in even if not on the list!

I’m confused. Why would my DD email a coach that is potentially not going to the Sunshine Showcase? Wouldn’t that be a waste of time to contact them if they are not going to be there? Will they be annoyed at my DD for emailing them assuming they will be there when there’s a very good chance they will not be there? Why wouldn’t Sunshine Showcase list all of the college coaches that would be in attendance? It seems like it would be a simple thing to update the list as the coaches commit.

Just checked the Disney showcase website. More D1 coaches added compared to when I looked a few days ago. It looks like the list is being updated.

Flying down to Orlando tonight. I’ll let y’all know what the coach turnout really is down there. Safe travels to all the DMV players and best of luck to the DMV teams > represent!

How do you plan to indentify all the coaches? Start by watching the top clubs in their pool play and see how many are on the sidelines?

In the past, a few Dads walk around and take notes. The place is pretty spread out so they divide and conquer. Also everybody shares with the team which coaches they’ve seen.

Also, lots (most?) wear their swag (hats, pullovers). And if you're a Soph and older, and have been talking to coaches already, you probably will recognize them.

The coaches list on the website for Disney is impressive. Not sure what ppl are complaining about.

It's USA Field Hockey. Trust me, that list is not and will never be complete. If your player has coaches/programs she's interested in and she has introduced herself earlier, it's fine to send a very quick message that says, in case you're at Disney this weekend, here's my schedule. If they're not going, no big deal, they'll ignore. There's nothing to lose here. I do not know why people want to insist on this argument about tournaments.

My kids has gotten messages back that they won’t be at the tournament, but are planning on being at X tournament

Freedom U19 tied Hammers U19.

Which Freedom team? They have several?

They sent one U19 team and one U16 team to Sunshine Showcase.

Freedom always just sends one team per age group. Usually including at least enough top players to qualify for the top pool and do the very best they can, as well as a few who are still working on recruiting. Very surprising to see they tied Hammers. Granted, they had the top 2023 goalie in the country, so she's gone, as well as multiple very strong players. Still, that's surprising--it's still a very strong team. Great job, Hammers. I saw that the NL U16 and U19 and Wolves U19 are all doing well, too. Will be interesting to see how the pools come together after this morning.

Hammers has a U16 GK who is playing up on U19, so it's a mixed team.

Husel U19 is 1-2 in the bracket and is 3d in pool going into crossovers. Husel U14 won 1, tied 1.

I think NL Blue U16 may get slotted into the top pool. U19 unfortunately faced a tough Texas Pride, so probably will be in the 3rd or 4th pool. Freedom won their pool by one goal to Hammers, so will probably also be in the top pool again. Wolves crushed it and may be in top pool. Warhawks went 3-0, but had much less competitive play, so will probably be in 2 or 3. Will be fun to see what happens.

The entire Hammers U16 team is playing up for this tournament .

Tomorrow (Sunday) The Washington Wolves play the WC Eagles - the same team that easily beat Husel U19. Gosh, I hope the Wolves win!!

Freedom U19 and Hammers U19 both lost their bracket play games 0-1. Impressive showing from both of these DMV teams! Now they play each other again tomorrow. Good luck to both teams!

There are some really nice results coming from the DMV. I was surprised to see several teams where their u19 is doing well (Freedom, Hammers, Wolves) but their u16 appears to be struggling. Are teams stacking those u19 with all their best kids playing up or is it just the strength of those specific age groups?

Honestly this tournament feels like a great day to be from the DMV. I’m happy for all the teams that are doing well!

Freedom U19 won the top pool last year. This is not a good showing for them at all, actually. I promise you, Sara Dawson is not happy. Wolves and Warhawks did great. Hammers really surprised and NL blue teams seemed to do well, too. It's true, DMV is really making a showing.
