| Can you really prep for an IQ test????? Isn't it testing your intelligence? How do you prep that? I see testingmom.com and ll types of sites/books advertising WISC test prep. That seems to defeat the purpose, no? |
| No. Get a good night's sleep. Have a good breakfast. |
| OP here - I just want to clarify, I have no issue with prepping for an ability test like SAT, NNAT, CogAT, but an IQ test is something different. Isn't your IQ, your IQ? How do you prep for that? |
Because IQ is a farce. It is in many cases based on nurture instead of nature and so can be prepped for. People in NY do it all the time. |
|
The tenets of developmental biology and physiology suggests you can most definitely prep for an IQ test. Environment and lack of repetitive stimulation or adverse stimulation can lead to biological and physiological underdevelopment and mal-development (epigenetics). Epigenetics is not for God fearing, faint of heart, bible thumpers. |
| Like race IQ is simply a sociological construct used by government for political ends with scant scientific underpinning. |
| I can see this thread is threatening to veer of the rails already. To answer OP's question, some feel familiarizing the child with the types of questions to be encountered on the test and practicing some beforehand can boost the score on the actual test. Whether it's true and whether it's proper are valid concerns, but won't stop many from trying to make a buck off of anxious parents. |
Why in your small world does truth and logic have to veer off the rails while ignorance rules the roost? |
Thank you. |
That is exactly what a lot of the talk about test prep for the AAP tests is about. Generating anxiety in parents and then making money off them. |
There are mechanical aspects to that IQ test that can be prepped for like familiarizing with format, type of questions, duration, directions, etc. Once the mechanical aspects are sufficiently familiar, the actual IQ drives the answers to the questions. An individual with high IQ may perform badly if they struggle with the mechanical aspects. |
| The "actual IQ" can be trained for the obvious and previously stated reasons. Think nurture, conditioning, environment, and epigenetics. Do not think guns, bible, fetus, and tobacco. |
| You can prep for an IQ test. In an IQ test, there are a series of questions. If you memorize the answers you can prep. (or cheat). Note that this does not mean you are smarter. It does mean that you are dishonest. |
There are a hell of alot of dishonest folk in this world from pilots who prep by flying back and forth over the same flight pattern, to golf pros who prep on the championship greens the week before, to swimmers stealing Olympic gold medals at the games after 3 months of training back and forth in the Olympic Games host pool, to concert pianists who practice the same piece over and over until perfection and Carnegie. All these bastards have memorized the answers, patterns, courses, and notes. These are all lying cheating dishonest buffoons with no talent. They are all dishonest according to your Nobel Prize winning theory. None of this means they are better pilots, pianists, golfers, or swimmers. They are just all smarter than you
|
| Memorization does not equal intelligence. |
