Ok - but there are regional cut times to help with this type of situation.

My kid is in National and made her cut times. But even so, the kids in Patriot are fast.

Again, ok. No one’s saying Patriot district isn’t fast.

The comment was trying to address the PP who was complaining that the Patriot district was so fast that their swimmer didn’t make regionals 4 years in row. My comment was only to say that the rules try to accommodate for those situations by having cut times. That’s all.

If the swimmers’s time was so fast, hopefully they were still able to complete in regionals via a time cut.

My kid has state cuts (and has in the past), but every year kids that swim for let’s say West Springfield or Falls Church, they can make even states with very slow times compared to the kids in the regionals. It’s not really fair. Same for regionals. We have seen kids who wouldn’t even be 16th at our district become top 3 at regionals.

This isn’t true. We swim National and my swimmer would have placed top 8 at States but didn’t make it because our Regionals is so strong. Sure, National is weak but VHSL Occoquan Region 6C is fast. The cuts for States are harder for our region than the rest of Virginia. Thats not fair.

I do not understand your comment. State cuts are state-wide, not based on region. If your swimmer is so strong, they are making the State cut and it has nothing to do with the Region (yes Regions have their own rules on the top XX swimmers (usually 5) are automatic bids). In our region, we have seen the T10 swimmers all make State cuts in the past.

Harder to make top 5. Swimmers from other areas who were significantly slower made it.

But that's why there is a path to qualify via a cut time vs. Regions place.

For boys, there was only a single event last year (500 free) where "only" the T5 boys at Regionals made states. For the other events, at least 6-10 made states based on State cut times. For ex., check out last year's results for 50 free, 100 back and others where at least 10 made it to the State cuts. https://www.pvswim.org/2425hs/2025vhslregion6d-results.pdf

This is for boys, girls is a different story.

Whenever it is, there is no planning around it. It will be your “weekend.”

Is the Regional meet for all of region 6 together? I saw someone using A, B and C so now I'm not sure if it's split further. Super ignorant parent here who never swam, so don't judge.

They are not. So there is a regional meet this weekend and then another for next. I think it is two districts per region for the 6s.

This is true. Taking girls 200 IM for example, top 3 were AAA, AAC, and STA cuts and #1 and #2 at States. It’s a joke to say National has some sort of advantage at Regionals.

they have an advantage of getting to regionals, though

We must not define “National” the same way. What exactly do you mean by “we swim national?”

I think they mean their HS is part of the National District that feeds into region 6c (Occoquan).
