VHSL Regionals

It is Valentines weekend at Oakmont. Dive in the morning and swim in the evening. Prelims/finals format same as normal districts.

Liberty is this weekend.

Thanks! So, prelims Friday evening and finals Saturday evening? (Our districts meet was not "normal" this year lol).

Yes that is correct.

Anyone know when Nationals will post their results (or can talk to the data person)? They did not push results to Meet Mobile. They are not published on the PVS website or on Swimcloud.

We got the results from our coaches. PVS will post them at some point soon. Patriot just got posted yesterday.

I feel like National might have a new data person. Things were slow with the results being sent afterwards and the did not know how to push to Meet Mobile.

Definitely possible. Things felt less organized this year.

Well I hope that they realize they need to submit results to PVS. Liberty, National and Concorde are behind the curve.

Anonymous wrote:Patriot is fast compared to National. It is hard when your kid in patriot won't make regionals even though they have a way way faster time than someone in National. Happened to my kid all 4 years.

Ok - but there are regional cut times to help with this type of situation.

My kid is in National and made her cut times. But even so, the kids in Patriot are fast.

Again, ok. No one’s saying Patriot district isn’t fast.

The comment was trying to address the PP who was complaining that the Patriot district was so fast that their swimmer didn’t make regionals 4 years in row. My comment was only to say that the rules try to accommodate for those situations by having cut times. That’s all.

If the swimmers’s time was so fast, hopefully they were still able to complete in regionals via a time cut.

New poster…

My kid has state cuts (and has in the past), but every year kids that swim for let’s say West Springfield or Falls Church, they can make even states with very slow times compared to the kids in the regionals. It’s not really fair. Same for regionals. We have seen kids who wouldn’t even be 16th at our district become top 3 at regionals.

West Springfield is in the Patriot District?

Yes.

I’m confused about the PP’s point.

I think it goes to the fast kid who is not quite fast enough to make a regional cut. If they are on a high school team with a deep bench they do not have the opportunity to get there because of the deep bench. Meanwhile smaller schools in certain districts where they all pretty much do not have deep benches will end up with slower kids in regionals.

Patriot district has a lot of good teams. They have large high schools in more affluent areas and lots of club swimmers. The exception to that is probably Alexandria City - no idea why they are stuck there. The districts are lined up so the dual meets are competitive. This all makes sense. Swimmers do not do well if they are blowing the other teams out of the water or in the alternative being demoralized every week by being blown out for the water (see, used a water reference).

National district is okay but certainly not as strong as Patriot. Some years they are, some years they are not. They have less top swimmers overall. Not TJ should probably be in Patriot district, they seem to be a bit of outlier. But, I think they probably enjoy the superiority of being in the wrong district and destroying their competition. Their fragile egos would not handle being in Patriot and middle of the pack there.

Everything will get re-aligned when redistricting happens in - year or so. I’ve heard some Prince William schools will be added to the mix.

When you say redistricting, is VHSL redistricting? FCPS redistricting? Are the 2 related?

I was confused as to why West Springfield was cited as an example of kids making states with slow times.

VHSL since they decide what schools are in what districts. I don't know how it works exactly.
