Yes- the real question is Georgetown a truly Christian school (followers of Christ) or Christian in Name Only (followers of Dump). |
| Is this a real perception? Is it recent? I went to Georgetown in the early 90s and hated how conservative it was. Yes, students and faculty care about others (is that woke?) but they also sent a huge contingent of students to the March for Life and LGBTQ students felt like fish out of water. But then, I guess a lot can change in 30 years. |
I think it has changed quite a bit since then. Georgetown was the first Catholic university in the country to establish an LGBTQ+ center (in 2008). Hoyas for Choice is always tabling in Red Square. The Center for Social Justice is extremely active. As a (non-Catholic, non-Christian, left/progressive) employee, I find it a very comfortable place to work. One thing it is not is a super-activist place. I think students who are drawn to Georgetown are more “work within the system” types. |
You are overestimating the value that others ascribe to your opinion. |
Kids choosing to go to college in Washington DC are probably not the ones who are avoiding politics. |
Why would a MAGA want to apply to a Jesuit school with Jesuit values? |
| My son is a freshman at Georgetown. They believe in Jesuit values, and that is drilled down, including respectful listening to all points of view. My very conservative husband is very comfortable with him there and has loved how the administration has handled certain things. |
Even ND had GALA-ND/SMC over 30 years ago, though it was club, though PRISM/ND didn't open until 2012. |
Well, no. They are the opposite of woke. Except some of the jesuits. |
Opus Dei? |
|
Their campus tour was very ‘woke’
A total turn off. |
| Just go to Liberty... you'll be happier there. |
This is how I am hoping Georgetown is. My DD was accepted and is considering it if she doesn't get into her first choice. She is pretty conservative herself religiously...not necessarily politically. She is really not political at all really and does't like to engage in the occasional debates at the family dinner table. Our family leans conservative, but not at all MAGA. |
We toured Georgetown and had the same perception. It is off our list. |
| Ridiculous. “woke” means you have empathy and compassion. The world could use more of that! |
