I think there are plenty of kids who just want to go to college and not have to deal with politics. These kids are in the middle of the political spectrum. Unfortunately, even forgets about these kids.

I hear all the time that it's one of the wokest of the elite schools, but the students I'm familiar with who've gone there don’t line up with that reputation. When you think Georgetown you think social justice focused, politically far left wing, and super plugged into the DC activist ecosystem. But most people I'm aware of who went or currently go there there are pre-professional and money-focused, pursuing fields like consulting, finance, law, etc. Not that they couldn't also be woke, but I see them more as wannabe MOTU types. So what's the real deal with Georgetown? Does the woke vibe dominate, or does the school's presence in DC just make it easier for a small minority of activist types to appear as a larger force than they really are?

OP, Georgetown is not woke…

Neither Georgetown (Jesuit school) or George Washington (stuffy pols) are woke institutions.

My DS was at GW during the so-called Gaza protests last year, and they were very tame compared to what was happening at Columbia or some other campuses. The little tents were full of quiet kids reading and studying. He wasn't bothered once by any screaming rallies, or any violence, even though his dorm was right at the heart of campus.

OP, you've got to get out of what I assume is your rightwing bubble. Most universities in the US are not hotbeds of woke.

Adulting is hard

Yeah, this must be a troll because Georgetown in not woke at all. Almost everyone there is extremely wealthy (because their financial aid is terrible) and have professional careers in mind, and the kids have zero desire to stage protests, etc.

+Boom. There it is. Georgetown is a Christian Jesuit school. Christian philosophy welcomes the "stranger", fights for the poor, and welcomes diversity.

Catholics = the MAGAs.

Jesuit is people for others, giving back, service to others, helping the marginalized.

To say something is woke is to say that that the place or people are aware of potential injustices (i.e., in my day, we would say, "stay woke" as in, be aware and pay attention).

Republicans have tried to co-opt this term and make it negative. We should reject that., it isn't their term (it's like if someone made up a dance and called it the samba. Um, no, the samba already exists).

Georgetown is somewhat woke in that they have acknowledged elements of their history that were racist and tried to make amends. Most students there seem to report that there is the ability to challenge ideas, which is great. It is also a very practical school with many going into professional fields. So the good news is that it seems pretty woke.

There's something called scroll right by if you're not interested in OP's topic.

All Jesuits are woke (charitable, kind, embracing of all people) by definition.

In this polarized age, if an applicant writes a bit about his commitment to social justice, diversity and inclusiveness and if the admissions person reading his application happens to be a MAGA, would the application be rejected right away?

Far more likely the other way around.

Define "woke" OP.

Then explain what your problem is it.

Then explain how you're a good person.
