How woke is Georgetown really?

Catholics = the MAGAs.

Jesuit is people for others, giving back, service to others, helping the marginalized.

The Jesuits are a centuries old Catholic order. And for others less/mis - informed I will state the obvious; Catholics are Christians and certainly older than the Protestants.

This. So, OP if this isn't your family's vibe, perhaps stick with Liberty.

Anonymous wrote:Can anyone elaborate on how woke Georgetown really is? I hear all the time that it's one of the wokest of the elite schools, but the students I'm familiar with who've gone there don’t line up with that reputation. When you think Georgetown you think social justice focused, politically far left wing, and super plugged into the DC activist ecosystem. But most people I'm aware of who went or currently go there there are pre-professional and money-focused, pursuing fields like consulting, finance, law, etc. Not that they couldn't also be woke, but I see them more as wannabe MOTU types. So what's the real deal with Georgetown? Does the woke vibe dominate, or does the school's presence in DC just make it easier for a small minority of activist types to appear as a larger force than they really are?

What are you even talking about? The activists are over at American u and that’s fine, who cares if anything is woke anyway? That’s a good thing.
If you are maga, and your kid is too, send them to a backwards place like liberty.
If your kid likes Georgetown, encourage their choice.

Most are just driven and smart, with various emerging points of view. Please stop fretting about the made up threat.

Clap clap

Thank you! Half the people spouting about woke don't even know what it means.

The answer is if you have to ask you'll be more comfortable at Liberty. Go there and spare the rest of us your MAGA crazy.

It's Jesuit and definitely "woke".

I went to Georgetown 2 decades ago, so take this with a giant grain of salt. But I also suspect things haven't changed all that much. There were definitely woke students but I would not say more than any other elite private school. The woke kids tended to be in the college, probably certain humanities majors. SFS kids definitely did not seem woke to me. Arrogant, but not woke. Business school also not woke. There are a lot of international kids. Not woke either.

I know Georgetown has a reputation for being super liberal and whatnot, but I didn't find that to be particularly true. At least back then, because of its Catholic status, it attracted a certain amount of a Christian professors (Catholic and protestant), and many of them were quite open about their faith. And I don't mean woke Christians either. I wasn't Christian but even I found that kind of refreshing. I don't think those professors would have been able to be as open about their faith in secular institution. But no idea of this is still the case at Georgetown today.

It is very very woke for a Catholic school and not very Catholic for a Catholic school.

But for a non Catholic secular school, it is fine.

Just don't put it on your top 10 list if you are wanting a Catholic university.

Yup! Jesuits believe in helping others and providing a great education. If you need to use an overused and trite word like "woke" OP,, your offspring are too dumb to ever be admitted to Georgetown.
