| Anyone heard of 99th percentile not getting accepted to the scholars program? |
Haha. Fair enough. |

Maryland K-8 private
99th percentile |
Interesting, mine was 98% from public and did not get Scholars. Chose a different school. |
| Congrats everyone! So far HSPT scores seem to range from 96-99. |

Something I found interesting with my kids and all the various tests they have taken over the years (now past college), the HSPT was the one most closely matched to how they performed academically in classes even through college, while all the other tests most closely matched IQ and how they performed in all other areas. Hard to explain what I mean, since the non academic stuff isn't measured by a test, so I can't give you a "life" score or a "leadership" score or a "job" score, but the HSPT is a very good test for academic skills.
Parents should have their kids take it as a measure, even if they aren't going to go to a Catholic school. |
| My 99th kid and I did not get email—does it come to me or to them? |
Check spam/junk |

Thanks. I did check junk. His grades aren’t perfect so I guess that’s it.

Our DCs probably know each other, also scholars and band! Check your spam for the invite, that’s where everyone I know who was invited last year found it. The event last year was a sales pitch- did not hear of anyone who was invited who didn’t get in. To a PP poster asking about late admission to the program, never heard of that. My DC said some kids from the ADW K-8 who applied to SJC assumed they’d be invited even without writing the essay, that did not happen. Good luck to all my, my DC is having a great experience so far. |
| Re late admissions to scholars, my DC got into scholars late after not applying initially. This was a few years ago so maybe less competitive then? DC had been accepted to SJC and another (arguably “better”) Catholic high school but preferred SJC. So I called admissions and asked if DC could be in scholars. HSPT scores were 95ish? Anyway, SJC said yes and it has been great. YMMV but you never know if you don’t ask. And things move a lot after the initial acceptances come out. |
Thanks for the insight! I’m sure this type of flexibility changes year to year, but sounds like SJC gained a great student and your DC had a great experience. |
| Did you reach out to admissions and ask for DC to be considered? Or did they reach out to you stating that DC was qualified? Sorry if I missed that part. |

I reached out to admissions. They did not call me. |
