It’s not about the number of refugees to accepted, it’s about the fact that they’re planning to let in mostly whites, and specifically white Afrikaners from South Africa. They’re either trolling Dems because they know they’re not going to get a lot of takers from South Africa anyway, or they’re showing their white nationalist colors.

I found a reddit r/askSouthAfrica (I think) and looked to see what they had to say about Afrikaner refugees. This was 6 months ago but there's plenty of snark. This American Life this weekend had an episode about this British white woman in South Africa who started organizing because you can be a refugee 1) without leaving your nice suburban home 2) you can arrange to have your pension paid 3)lower unemployment rate in the US so her son will have a better shot of getting a job.

The main Tannie of the first group is from Fish Hoek. Farming hard in her 120square metre fully paid up plot with 4 bedroom home with the lovely rose bushes om die heining. Eats out every 3 nights at Barracudas restaurant on the beachfront and watches all the Bok games at the Vic at Fish Hoek circle. Ask me - because I know. She suffered some HECTIC persecution here... Mostly having to drink Tall Horse wine - that stuff is harsh.

There are two main groups of whites in SA. One is the descendants of the Dutch (and some other) who came centuries ago to farm and supply ships. The other are Brits. Apparently older generations continued to have hostility towards each other (going back to the British-Boer conflicts of the 19th century and I believe the Brits seeing the Boers as ignorant rubes and the Boers seeing the Brits as snobs) but not so much now. One draw is unemployment among whites in SA is about double the US (unemployment among blacks is 4x as high as for whites). On reddit the question was debated whether you have to be a farmer, which would tend to mean Afrikaner as opposed to Brit descent.

Coloured are also a minority, only slightly higher percentage than the whites, do they get consideration?

Sounds like they’re amping up the white S. African refugee program even more. As a reminder, the refugee program for anyone else has been almost completely shut down.
